Ichor Desert (Eye-core Desert)
Just south of the Republic of Menestia lies a desert of black sand and brackish ponds. A wasteland that was fled many centuries ago, leaving it undisturbed. Then, as Zilvra started to establish itself as an influential nation within the continent, they claimed the desert as their own, turning it into one of the most effective natural borders in history.
Ecosystem
The center of the desert is a barren land of black sand, and it is surrounded by thick savanna. However, if the top layer of the desert is arid and harsh, its underground is somewhat habitable. Entire caverns of solidified sand hide under the black dunes of the desert. They are deep and dark, but cold compared to the extreme heat of the desert. And, with the help of Zilvran technology, they become, on some level, hospitable. Apart from the eastern forests, most of Zilvran folks are under-dwellers, and the desert is their home.
Localized Phenomena
One feature that has become a known trademark of the Ichor Desert is its lack of any potable water. Whereas most deserts would have a few oasis for weary travelers to gather at, all ponds found within the Ichor Desert are full of a thick brackish dark liquid, which it is not recommended to drink. In fact, those that have drank the liquid fell to illness.
Ichorian Sandstorms
Ichorian Sandstorms are terrifying yet common events in the desert. Great waves of dark sand form tornadoes which sweep landscape at great speed, scrapping the skin of those unlucky enough to stand in its path only they are nothing but a pile of bloody meat and bones. However, it is not the worst fate that awaits foolish travelers. Ichor particles can fill one's lungs until they suffocate to death. The mass of Ichor in their body then takes control, creating what locals call "Ichor Devils", creatures similar to undead corpses filled with sand and a hunger for anything filled with liquid.History
Over the years, the Ichor Desert has become Zilvra's best natural defense. Due to its very harsh conditions, only travelers that are accompanied by state-ordained guides usually make it through. Besides, it refrains any army from direct attack, the idea of journeying through what outsiders call "Devil's Waste" being enough to make any experienced tactician recoil.
