Micanos Valley
South of Vestreykil lie miles upon miles of grasslands. The Micanos Valley encompasses most of southern Menestia. With its pale green grass and rolling hills, it makes for a beautiful countryside, and its rich soil has provided food for the good people of Menestia for decades now.
Geography
The Micanos Valley is an ensemble of rolling hills of grass and flat plains that are used for agriculture. It is traversed by the Berius river, which flows from the northeast to the southwest.
Ecosystem
The deforestation necessary for agriculture has left the region with sparse woodland and large plains and hills, used for cultivation. This far inland, the Berius river narrows substantially, sometimes shrinking down to 3 meters wide.
Localized Phenomena
The Micanos Valley is home to a number of firefly swarms that tend to illuminate its hills after sunset. This has given place to a strange phenomena where large enough swarms of fireflies would light up the sky so bright that, for a second, it looked indistinguishable from actual daylight. This sight, dubbed "dayfire" by the locals, is particularly common in summer, where the fireflies are most active.
Natural Resources
The valley is the biggest agricultural source in Menestia, responsible for about 50% of its grain and produce production.
History
There have been many disputes, some not always in good faith, about the size and limits of the Micanos Valley. While some particularly proud Menestian cartographers have identified it as stretching from Vestreykil to the very border of Tamynia, others have drawn it as a square of land ranging from the capital to the Carius Lake, almost identical to the menestian province of the same name.
