Thresholds

You know of Thresholds, or else you would not be here. The second you took a doorway and left your world, or perhaps even the second you were born outside a world, you found yourself in one. These things we call Thresholds are what connect the endless possibilities out there, the passageways we take. Whether one appears as a bridge, a corridor, a large building, or a cliff that one has to ascend and descend, it is the same thing in its essential nature. They are our stepping stones.   We know not where they came from, who or what shaped them, we do not even know why sometimes they collapse or quietly disappear. Sure, some claim they know. Partial understanding, theories, hypotheses, blind faith. Mere superstitions that we fool ourselves with, as one cannot live without faith in something, to believe one has some form of control.   Do not let others fool you. Do not fool yourself in their stead. There is no truth in words, and there is no strength in numbers. There is but one thing worthy of your faith, and that is your own being.
There is an immense variety of Thresholds here. Large, small, sturdy, fragile, beautiful, terrifying, more types than many worlds know words. Some are avoided by all but the most brave fools, others exploited by the strong, or used as a place of community as even the most wary and powerful fear being alone more than anything else.   There are those that only use a Threshold as they pass from world to world. Or those that stay there for a long time, build homes, build lives, live and die in these places inbetween. Some claim they feel they do not belong here, or that this is the only place that truly feels like home. Others talk of fear. The fear of a doorway disappearing and being trapped in a single world. Or the fear of a collapse, a Threshold ending itself and its inhabitants with it.   Again, do not let others fool you. Both fear and feelings of longing are mere shackles we allow ourselves to be restrained by. The Thresholds offer us doorways, and through that they let us find places of Power. But like the worlds themselves, Thresholds too are merely a means. Both an attachment and a disattachment to them serves no proper purpose. One must find purpose in themself, not in surroundings.   If you remember nothing else, remember this. Words are meaningless. Whatever anyone tells you about a Threshold, never take it as the truth. That goes for my words too. Not even I am foolish enough to assume my words hold more truth than they hold Power. So step through that doorway, venture forth, gain Power, see sights that one cannot even find proper words for.   Then remember. There is no truth in Words.
