Charbrak
DnD: Azers
The Charbraks hail from The Blazing Elementarum, and maintain an enclave in Trast where they provide their services as master smiths.
Basic Information
Genetics and Reproduction
When intentionally creating a new generation, Charbraks on Dynos assemble new bodies from locally sourced igneous rock and place them into a so called “Genesis Chamber” near natural rifts to the Blazing Elementarum. Over a period up to two years, the elemental energy infuses the form, until it reaches a critical point that “awakens” them. They have settled on creating forms that average 4-5 feet tall; smaller forms tend to be too fragile, and larger forms tend to be slower as a result of the weight ratio, increasing wear over time and reducing the lifespan.
Originally, they formed naturally and randomly from loose volcanic stones exposed to the energies of the Elementarum, and this is still possible. However, the ones living among organics tend towards the more intentional, refined process.
Growth Rate & Stages
Over time, their rocky bodies smooth out from use, both as a result of grinding against themselves and external weathering factors. Affixing and replacing of the metal plates they wear also gradually introduces cracks into their forms. Some attempt to repair these cracks with molten metal, or by grafting more permanent metal encasements around the afflicted area.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Charbraks must have regular exposure to the Blazing Elementarum's energies for sustenance: at least a month out of every year. Those that reside at Glimmerfyrd are close enough to the rift to benefit from longer lives, while those that live elsewhere have to return annually and spend time very close to the rift, often in a hibernative state.
Civilization and Culture
Beauty Ideals
As a type of fire elemental, Charbraks can not effectively wear clothes made of organic materials. Instead, they are exceptional at forging metal and wear plates affixed to their bodies, generally riveted directly onto their rocky forms. Elders whose bodies have smoothed over from years of erosion sometimes chisel intricate designs or even arcane runes into their surfaces.
Gender Ideals
Charbraks have no concept of gender, meaning nonbinary organics tend to have a more favorable experience with them.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
A practical people, a Charbrak's greatest form of expression is through their craft. For some, that is in the form of intricately chiseled architecture. For others, forging masterful metalworks. And for the fewer artistically gifted types, beautiful ceramics or glasswork. While many Charbrak do not believe in Voknul as necessarily being a deity, they do have respect for people who worship him.
