Only able to be wielded by an Orc, this artifact magnifies its wielder's strength and ferocity in battle. It also produces an aura that inspires ferocity in the wielder's allies. It also allows the wielder to shapeshift into a Gorthek.

History

When Gashnag went to war in the Underdark to help Elendar usurp Lolth, he found his weapon blessed by multiple deities.   Armed with this greataxe, Gashnag helped slay many members of the Dark Seldarine and then his own people's deity, Adgulg.   It is typically carried by the high priest of Gashnag, though it has been lost for generations.

Significance

After his ascension to godhood, this weapon would become a symbol of righteous fury for the Orcish people.

Incense the Horde

As a bonus action, you can cause yourself to be surrounded by an aura of ferocity for 1 minute. Followers of Gashnag gain advantage on attack rolls against enemies of the Cult of Gashnag. A 's rage does not expend rounds while in this aura. This property can’t be used again until the next dawn.

Gashnag's Rage

If you are a attuned to the axe, you gain the following benefits when you are under the effect of your Rage class feature:
  • You are able to concentrate on spells you have cast. This does not allow you to cast spells.
  • You have resistance to all damage. You gain immunity to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage that isn't adamantine.
  • Your speed increases by 20 feet.

Blessings of Anger

If you are not a , you gain the Rage class feature as a barbarian of your character level, up to level 10, though you gain none of the other class features of a barbarian, nor do you gain the benefits a barbarian gains from the Blessings of Anger property of this item.

Holy Animal

As an action, you can use the weapon to cast Polymorph on yourself, transforming into a Gorthek while retaining your Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. This property can’t be used again until the next dawn.

Destroying the Greataxe

Destroying the Rageshaper requires that it be melted down in the forge where it was created and have the melted materials plunged into the blood of a true ally to Gashnag. Simply melting the greataxe causes it to reform on the back of Gashnag's high priest.
