Personal history
Gashnag grew up on a tiny island named Ratabar. Here, the Orcish populace launched regular raids and harassed coastal neighbors. They followed the god Adgulg, who encouraged these attacks, but did nothing else for his people. Bored and fed up with such a hollow life, Gashnag left home in search of glory, swearing to usurp Adgulg and always searching for ways to better his people's status in the world beyond the primal savagery that they were known for. This was not an easy task, however, as the green skin and tusks were dead giveaways of his race and he found himself shunned or even attacked unprovoked at nearly every turn. This caused him to become embittered and, left alone, would have seen him become the very monster everyone believed him to be.
After several months, however, he was injured in the shallow reaches of the Underdark during a fight with a Drider that was well outside its natural hunting grounds. He was discovered by a Drow, which was another race renown for their bloodthirstiness and cruelty. This Drow, however, was a follower of Eilistraee, the only Drow deity with a benign nature. Using Drow alchemy, Elendar closed Gashnag's wounds and cured him of the vicious venom running through his veins. This Drow sought to usurp a deity of his own, Lolth. Seeing their similarities, the two took up arms together and faced many challenges the world had to offer. When Eilistraee finally made her move against Lolth, Elendar was called on and Gashnag joined. This prompted Eilistraee to imbue both of them with a temporary immortality until the Great Spider was defeated. The war lasted many Drow lifetimes and many of Gashnag and Elendar's allies and friends perished in the war. When the time came to take on the Spider herself, Gashnag fought alongside Elendar and, after two weeks, the deity was slain.
Elendar would go on to help Gashnag throw off the shackles of Adgulg, who had spread her influence and stature without putting in any amount of work. However, this deity fell easily before the duo that slew one of the most powerful deities to exist. Thus, Gashnag consumed her power and joined the ranks of the gods. The two parted to take care of their own people, but remained steadfast allies throughout the time to follow.
Gashnag would spread his influence and work to temper the natural rage born into his people. After many years, the other races came to accept the Orcs into their towns and establish trade. When the Resurgence occurred, the other Orcish deities conspired to seal away Gashnag in a volcano located in a mountain chain in Fontania. His worship eventually became heavily localized to this volcano, where his followers actively seek the release of their god...
