Mephistopheles

The Idol One

Mephistopheles lord of Cania, The Eighth Level of Hell and Archdevil of Treachery. It is said that Mephistopheles was Samuel's greatest rival and best friend, and that when the call came forth for a new Archangel the two competed for it. But despite loosing to him he was always proud to be Samuel's friend. Then when Samuel was to go to the Abyss and fight the demon hoards, it was Mephistopheles that first stepped forward simply asking when they would go.
But even Mephistopheles, once seen as Samuel's equal was not exempt from the tribulations of his best friend's trial. At first the celestial court tried to accuse him of the treachery of siding with the demons. But before they could even finish the prosecutor was destroyed for even attempting to utter such blasphemy in front of the deities summoned to act as arbiters. Instead they chose to accuse him or Treachery and betrayal of his so called "best friend". Mephistopheles was given an ultimatum before the trial, betray Samuel or fall with him. If he took the deal he would be given Samuel's command and sent back to the Abyss to continue the fight but would forever be under Heavens thumb. The simple act of even considering it was enough to make him guilty, to this day he still repents for the thought and punishes those who would dare do the same.
A powerful celestial mage in his day Mephistopheles is said to have read the entire contents of the heavens library and his thist for knowledge even allowing him once to enter both The Vault of Dark Secrets, The Accursed Archive and Libra, Realm of Knowledge  and learn from them. for this reason Wizards, Warlocks, Sorcerers and all manor of casters and sages are drawn to making deals with him. Though the price is always an eternity as his guest in Cania, The Eighth Level of Hell.
