The Zardborg Scroll I (Zahrd-bohrg)

The Naming of Shade after King Adronte's Sorcerer

The first Zardborg Scroll describes the fall of King Adronte, the insanity of Shade the Sorcerer and the naming of Shade(the land). It says that during the later days of the Adriphite War, the king and his sorcerer were spending more and more time together. It says that Shade(the sorcerer), began to slowly get more and more decrepit, in both body and mind. He was known for spending days or even weeks in his tower alone experimenting in sorcery and Blood Magic. One day he was nowhere to be found. The King ordered that the land be searched, and he was discovered in a far off part of the island. When questioned with his disappearance, he frantically screamed that he had found The Secret! He suddenly threw down a stone he had been holding, turning the whole ground black at his feet. He fell to the ground lifeless, and then quivering rose again to his knees. Upon his face was a petrifying power, and from his hands trickled steaming blood. He rose to his feet and as he stepped forward the ground beneath him withered and died, spreading hungry fingers of death out along the ground and through the air. The men and King Adronte flew from him. As they rode, the ground began to shake, and they saw behind them a great shape rise. It is described as having the head of Death, the body of a corpse and the size of a mountain. Shade was swallowed into the darkness, and him and the Demon could not be found. The ground where he had walked however was dead, and the death continued to spread throughout the land, withering trees and plants and turning the whole island to a wasteland.  The land therefor was named Shade, and no man lives there.
There is little debate that the giant spoken of was the Wizard's Bane or Eclentimor. Look in Fauna&Flora>Mythical Monsters for more information on the Wizard's Bane.
The Zardborg Scrolls were brought to Amatrio, Brazlefast from Shade during the reign of the Adriphites.
The first Zardborg Scroll is assumed to have been written by an ancient historian during the reign of King Adronte. All of the Zardborg Scrolls are originally written in ancient, or pure, Phelrogan.
