Ish'thekar (ISH-thuh-kahr)
The Ishthek'ar, translated directly to "Spirits of the Mire", or "Marsh Walkers" in the common tongues, are ancestors of the Lir'renthir who have been laid to rest within the swamps surrounding the tribal villages, and are then raised from undeath using the necromantic abilities of the tribes' druids in order to defend the lands from intruders.
The Ishthek'ar are revered by the Lir'renthir as both protectors and spiritual symbols. These undead ancestors are raised from the swamp's fungal flora using the Lir'renthir's necromantic powers, and they are considered to be the embodiment of the tribe's collective memory and ancestral wisdom. The Ishthek'ar are also deeply connected to the swamp itself, as they are sustained by the same fungal network that supports the Lir'renthir's other creatures and crops.
As defenders of the tribe, the Ishthek'ar play a vital role in protecting the Lir'renthir's lands from intruders. They are fierce and loyal warriors, and they will stop at nothing to safeguard their living kin and their territory. The Lir'renthir also believe that the Ishthek'ar have the power to influence the swamp's natural elements, and that they can use this power to manipulate the environment to their advantage in battle.
As religious symbols, the Ishthek'ar represent the Lir'renthir's connection to their ancestors and to the natural world. They are honored and respected by the tribe, and their presence is seen as a sign of good fortune and protection. The Lir'renthir perform regular rituals and offerings to the Ishthek'ar, seeking their guidance and blessings in all aspects of life.
