The Uulyn Brotherhood

Emerging from the harsh expanse of the eastern steppe, the Uulyn Brotherhood, or "Uulyn Nutag" in their dialect, is a resilient coalition of the world's mightiest beast races. Cast aside by the 'civilized' societies, these races – including orcs, kobolds, minotaurs, centaurs, bugbears, gnolls, and many others – found unity in their shared struggle for survival, forging a distinct identity that remains unparalleled across the vast lands of Earendor.

History

Once a series of disparate tribes, each with its own customs and traditions, the Uulyn Nutag evolved from a necessity for survival. Facing encroaching threats from the west, the tribes found strength in unity. This shared determination led to the formation of the Uulyn Brotherhood, a pact of mutual protection and cooperation that has withstood the test of time. While it's unknown when the official unification took place, raids from the now-combined forces of the Brotherhood began near the beginning decades of the current age, the Age of Intrigue. Over generations, the Brotherhood has transformed into a complex society, characterized by a robust meritocratic structure, a shared code of honor, and an unwavering commitment to the Brotherhood's survival.

Geography

The Uulyn Brotherhood sprawls across the extensive grasslands of the eastern steppe, a region marked by a stark beauty that belies its harsh nature. The Brotherhood's territories are bordered by the Vanyar Consortium to the west, the arid lands to the south, and the formidable mountain ranges to the southwest. Beyond the mountains, the vast blue desert, known as the "Köke Dalai," poses an insurmountable challenge for most, but the adept shamans of the Brotherhood have developed a deep understanding of its treacherous paths, enabling them to navigate its length and breadth with astounding precision.

Religion and Culture

The spiritual practices of the Uulyn Brotherhood are deeply ingrained in their daily lives. They follow a shamanistic path, revering the spirits of their ancestors and the elemental forces that govern their world. The Brotherhood recognizes three primary deities – Galünengör, the god of fire and truth, Höörhön-Dikoegör, the god of the wildsand nature, and Od-Khamgaalagch, the god of the cosmos and stars. Their rituals often involve invoking these gods, seeking their blessings for strength, courage, and resilience. The Brotherhood's culture is rich with an oral tradition, where tales of heroism, wisdom, and ancestral knowledge are passed down through the generations. Their dialect, while distinct, reflects the diverse influences of the races that form the Brotherhood, creating a linguistic tapestry as diverse as the Brotherhood itself.

Talyn Ordon

The heart of the Uulyn Brotherhood is Talyn Ordon, the "Eagle's Nest," an awe-inspiring sight nestled amidst the vast expanse of the eastern steppe. This sprawling city, forged from the collective efforts of the diverse races within the Brotherhood, stands as a testament to their unity and resilience. In this city, the air is alive with the intermingling scents of cooking fires, the hearty laughter of the bustling markets, and the distant echoes of shamanistic chants.   Talyn Ordon is more than a mere capital; it is the beating heart of the Brotherhood's society. Here, the shamans commune with the spirits, the warriors train, and the craftsfolk weave their extraordinary craftsmanship into tangible forms. The city's architecture is as diverse as its denizens, with towering spires, labyrinthine tunnels, and sprawling courtyards reflecting the unique influences of the races that call the Uulyn Brotherhood home.

Organization

The Uulyn Brotherhood is governed by a council of leaders known as the "Noyan Khorol," each representing one of the constituent races of the Brotherhood. The council's decisions are guided by wisdom, honor, and the survival of the Brotherhood, ensuring that each voice within the Brotherhood is heard and considered. The highest position within the Uulyn Brotherhood is the "Khan," a title earned through a combination of battle prowess, strategic acumen, and the respect of one's peers. The current Khan is a towering minotaur named Kharagal, known for his wisdom, strength, and unwavering dedication to the Brotherhood's cause.   Beneath the Khan, each race has a "Noyan," a chieftain chosen for their leadership and prowess. The Noyan are responsible for the wellbeing of their race within the Brotherhood and represent their race's interests within the Noyan Khorol.   This structure, designed to balance power and ensure representation, has fostered a sense of unity and shared purpose within the Uulyn Brotherhood. It reflects their shared commitment to survival, honor, and mutual respect, reinforcing the bonds that hold this diverse coalition together.

Interactions with the Outside World

The Uulyn Brotherhood is a force to be reckoned with. Their warbands, or "Dai’chu," are a formidable threat to the western kingdoms of the Vanyar Consortium, Aldorstead, and Edhenal. These fearless warriors, renowned for their ferocity and tactical acumen, are a testament to the Brotherhood's survival instincts. Despite the challenges of the treacherous Köke Dalai, they have established a reputation as relentless raiders, striking fear into the hearts of those who dare to underestimate them. Through the most recent decades, the Uulyn Brotherhood has stood as a testament to the resilience and strength of the beast races of Earendor. United by their shared history and collective resolve, they continue to thrive, a beacon of unity and adaptability in a world that has too often cast them aside.
