Grond
Grond will hammer you into the Grond! No, that not what I meant! Why you confuse me liitle hero? Rraaagh!
Grond is an enormous four-armed humanoid constructed of pure, unrestrained rage, and enormous strength. His green skin is nearly invulnerable and next to no one can stand against him. Like the other irradiates, he's a mutant whose body has been horrifically twisted and deformed, his mind has devolved to its simplest terms except the worship of radioactive devices and materials, and all this in exchange for an empowered existence. Grond will destroy anything that annoys him until they stop moving or something else distracts him.
History
Sidney Potter was a small-time thug and seemingly biologically normal human who was doing his third stint near Alamogordo Air Base, New Mexico. He had no chance of parole until he was offered a good word in exchange for being a lab rat while behind bars. Sidney thought the deal sounded good until a medical mixup occurred one rainy night. Sidney found himself injected with the wrong serum. Before the doctors could even examine the possible risks of what he had just been given, Sydney lost his mind and threw himself against a nearby window and the bars until both gave way. He plummeted into the polluted river below. The moment the felon splashed into its running waters the river was struck by lightning as if this moment was fate.
Cold War Era
Over the next few days, other locals who had become irradiates began to gather at the river's edge as if they knew something amazing was about to occur. Then the enormous, four-armed, three-phlangeed, horned, tusked, green-skinned humanoid emerged from the water to tower over them. It announced itself as Grond and the irradiates chanted its name before following it on its first rampage toward the prison. After a prolonged conflict, Grond was unconscious and in military custody where they confirmed that Grond was formerly Sydney Potter.
Grond was freed when the as-of-yet-infamous Doctor Destroyer demolished the Stronghold super-max prison. Destroyer and Binder, another supervillain who was held within and was coincidentally freed, approached Grond, and Destroyer attempted to recruit Grond to play a part in a plan. The plan that would one day level Detroit, Michigan. Grond refuses and bounds his way back toward the Southwest desert. Binder tries to take Grond's place but Doctor Destroyer laughs in the supervillain's face before he vanishes.
After Grond's short time with the Alliance of Supervillains, the villains Mechanon and Halfjack hatched a plan to make the gigantic mutate a cybernetic slave. When Mechanon and Halfjack engaged Grond in a snowy Central Park, the Champions answered the call. The conflict spiraled out of control and Grond escaped, which brought Mechanon to self-destruct. Halfjack was assumed to have been killed in the blast, but his body was not recovered.
On the run after a failed attempt to murder Bulldozer at The Sanctuary, Grond is convinced by the criminal gang known as GRAB to distract the Capitol Patrol while they steal the Hope Diamond. Several heroes in the DC area defeated Grond on the lawn of the capitol building, while metro DC police and PRIMUS agents foiled the GRAB thugs. Their leader, Black Diamond, and Grond are captured and sent back to Stronghold.
The United States Army initiated Project Greenskin to take control of the supervillain Grond. After several months of testing, the team at Greenskin believed that they had figured out how to subdue and depower Grond. The solution failed and provoked retaliation from Grond who rampaged through the original base and killed most of the personnel inside.
Superhuman Registration Era
Grond returned to the Uranium Flats again and claimed that he desired quiet. UNTIL scientists believed this to be a lie because Grond spent most of his time soaking up the plentiful radiation near the many test detonation sites. The scientists observed Grond's strangely altered body fed on and processed the radiation to make him even stronger. UNTIL and the American military had rebuilt Project Greenskin and refortified their base. They have recruited some of the world's most powerful superheroes and continued their work to prevent or stop Grond's next devastating rampage.
