Steiger-Wakeman Building

The Steiger-Wakeman Building is the headquarters of the Steiger-Wakeman Global Media corporation, located in the floating charter city of Elysium. Although referred to as a building, the Steiger-Wakeman Building has expanded to encompass a small complex of various interconnected structures to support the world-renowned media corporation. The Steiger-Wakeman Building is eighteen stories tall, and covers an area of several thousand square meters.

The building employs thousands of workers, many of whom are involved in Steiger-Wakeman's news channel, Steiger-Wakeman News. The channel is broadcasted all over the world from the Steiger-Wakeman Building, and includes live translations into over fifty languages. In addition, the building supports other Steiger-Wakeman channels, including entertainment and sports, as well as overseeing the distribution of produced media and internet content.

The building's iconic satellite dish on top was originally designed as a artistic piece, but is in fact functional. However, the majority of satellite uplink time is used through Elysium's much more powerful transmitters elsewhere in the floating city, and the building's own dish is primarily used for sensitive corporate transmissions. On occasion, other corporations on Elysium have been known to buy uplink time from the Steiger-Wakeman Building's satellite dish in order to send their own sensitive information, which is a service the corporation has formally provided since 2060.

The building's architecture, in contrast to much of the highly artistic Elysium, is a fairly standard 20th century International Style structure. Although there were a number of complaints during the construction process over how well it fit into the floating city's skyline, these were ultimately overruled by the Elysium Corporation, citing the importance of having Steiger-Wakeman as a partner in the city's construction.
