Café Épreuve
Literally “café test,” this is a temporary venture by the Count to test the market for a night club here at the corner of Bourbon and Bienville. The doors do not officially open until 10 p.m., but investigators invoking the Count’s blessing with social skills or wielding their Credit Rating, easily move past the door attendant into the club. Mardi Gras style decorations adorn the walls, and a lively house band practices on stage led by a thundering piano. A man in bowtie and vest stands behind a bar carefully cleaning a giant collection of demitasse (espresso) cups and saucers.
