Deanala (/Dee-nala/ or /Dey-nala/)

"She Who Mothers Cities"

Summary

Deanala is the mother of all cities. Her body is the palisades, and her mind is the council of government. Guards, judges, and politicians all look to her so that they may enact a just and efficient society. She is the Mother-Goddess of all of the deities, and the legitimate mother of Fae'len. Aelis is a close friend and compatriot, as well as a suitor of her daughter.

The Canon and the Way

In the Green Way, Deanala represents rules and boundaries more so than formal legal systems and institutions. Her teachings tell her followers the importance of respect towards eachother, and the necessity of resolving conflict with one another without resorting to violence or trespass. Those in the Green Way that especially admire Deanala make for incredible listeners and mediators.   Conversely, the Prime Canon holds the more statist view which has been prescribed to Deanala - a protector of cities, of civilization. She upholds the status quo, because incredible change is jolting and undesirable to the health of a populace. This view is often thought to be contradictory by the Green Way, for it necessitates the imposition of laws and rules which infringe upon the rights of individuals - and, thus, breed conflict. Those who follow the Prime Canon would insist that conflict is bred by the absence of such structure, and that *that* is what Deanala truly stands against.

Symbology

Deanala is often represented as a woman with broad wings, whose span can cover the sky. They are always outstretched, except for when they are curled around symbols of society, such as walls or a building which serves as a capitol. A vibrant feather is a symbol of Deanala, though it should be noted that a feather *quill* is her daughter, Fae'len’s, sign; just as family should be, the two are hard to disentwine. Sometimes, to distinguish the symbolic feather from the quill, small clips which appear like angelic wings are placed onto the feather. These trinkets are common and easy to find in most markets.

Rites and Worship

Deanala's holy sites often double as centers of administration and government. Temples which focus on evangelism and which complement and aid the authorities of a city can be found in the largest of settlements, though these are also heavily focused on administrative duties (such as managing paperwork for the local guard, or offering legal representation to those unable to afford it). It is common that Deanala's servants give lectures and speeches whenever laws are changed or passed, so that all in a city are made aware of them. Deanala's servants do not judge laws in her name, and merely proseltyze them. Judgement is left to Aelis, and the act of crafting the actual law to Thear.   Clerics of Deanala often wear hats with a single vibrant feather, coupled with clothes that have silver or golden trim. Those who work in cities often carry a ledger filled with local laws, always kept up-to-date. In the tradition of the Green Way, Clerics often carry Feyweed with them, and offer it in peace to those whose conflicts they mediate.
