Cult of Ravens

Written by Salen

The followers of the God of Death and Corruption aren't many, and his name is usually never mentioned out loud. Any killer or deviant that seeks to bring death to another calls this God their patron.

History

The Cult of the Raven, devoted to Krist, God of Death and Corruption, was created right after the first zombie attack in Garon'd. Before this Krist just had a small following of deranged killers and psychopaths, but in the aftermath of the risen dead, a small cult started. They preached destruction to all unnatural life, and the people wanted to hear it. From there on out where ever undead were spotted, the Cult was there eradicating them.

Divine Origins

The origin of the Cult of the Ravens is embedded in myth and lore. They choose the Raven as their symbol because it is supposed to be the God's spirit bringing the dead where they are supposed to go. This is why the Cult uses Raven's feathers as their holy symbol when casting their prayers against their enemies. In recent decades the Cult has also worked against the longer lived races like the elves and dwarves, feeling that they are cheating death

Tenets of Faith

The Tenants of Krist's faith are very simple, as he is a very direct God. He implores his followers to:
  • Death comes naturally.
  • If you find the dead walking, send them to Krist.
  • Seek to disparage all those who seek to escape death.
  • If someone has lived beyond Krist's guidance, they must be sent to Krist.

Worship

The everyday people worship Krist in secret. He is called upon for the death of hated enemies, whispered in the dark for vengeance, and begged for when the ill seek release. His prayers are heard more in the early hours of the darkness, when all else seems lost (3am)
Krist, Lord of the last breath, take this spirit back to your embrace!

Priesthood

The Cult is made up of different titles and positions throughout the land, though everyone begins as an acolyte. The acolytes are found in every place of worship from the smallest shrine to the largest church, though the Cult doesn't have many large buildings like the other religions do. The acolytes keep the lights on and the doors ready to welcome any who need help. The Slayers are full workers of miracles and after a lifetime of service they can attain the title of Reaper. The Reaper is held by only 3 people at one time, each roaming the land seeking out people and monsters that have eluded death.

Granted Divine Powers

Krist grants prayers to his loyal Slayers (acolytes cannot cast prayers). These prayers can take the form of anything the Priest needs at the moment, from destroying undead to calling upon a murder of ravens upon their enemies. Below is a quick list of just some of the Prayers that have been recorded in the history books:
  • Destroy Undead - physically destroy the body of a lesser undead (skeletons, zombies, even Wraiths.
  • Ward against undead - Banish powerful undead and keep them at bay like vampires and ghosts
  • Army of Feathers - Call upon a murder of Ravens to attack your enemies.
  • Weapon blessing - This prayer makes the weapons touched fire quicker and deal more damage.
