Dwarves

Written by Salen

The Dwarves of Eather'an are a hardy folk. They are adept at living underground as well as above, and excel at working with their hands. Dwarves live about three times that of a human, though not nearly as long as an elf. Old age for a dwarf is about 350 years and most dwarves rarely live to see their 400th birthday. The entire race, however, is short in stature. Dwarves rarely exceed 5' in height while they are solid creatures, weighing anywhere from 160 lbs to a surprising 200 lbs.

Tamia

The dwarves of Tamia are happier than other dwarves. Their lives are a bit better and enjoy a full day of eating and working on inventions and so forth. They began the Gearsmith Guild centuries ago and while there are other races that have climbed the ranks of the hierarchy, it's mainly dwarves that dominate the upper ranks.

The Shards

The Dwarves of The Shards are a dour folk, broken and hopeless. The orcs enslved their race long and long ago, capturing the dwarven families to secure their obedience. They work with their heads down and rarely smile at all now, knowing what they must do to keep their families safe. They fight fiercely against any rebellion, knowing that their kin will suffer any indiscretion.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Broad shoulders and chests are common among dwarves, as are stout legs.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dwarves reproduce only with other dwarves and have the same characteristics as most humans, except gestation is only 8 months. Twins are even more rare than eves, as only one set of twins has ever been recorded in the history of the race. While some scientists speculate that there can be some sort of Half-dwarf, this is mere conjecture and has never been proven.

Ecology and Habitats

Dwarves are a hardy bunch, being able to live almost anywhere. That being said they definitely have a preference. They prefer living underground, closer to the stone that they so dearly love, or at least among the rocks of the higher mountains. This is not to say that there are no dwarves among the cities, just where they prefer to settle their own societies.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Dwarves can see underground by amplifying existing light much like an elf.
