Gearsmith Guild

The Guild of Gearsmiths is a prestigious affiliation that consists of inventors from the Dwarven race. While not restricted to any race, there are very few non dwarven Gearsmiths above level 2. The dwarves often travel tothe Mystvale Institute of Learning to pursue a degree in engineering, or even take classes in geology and science to help them in their craft.

Progression

As a Gearsmith works his way through his apprenticeship, he achieves level 2 by creating something that is brand new, or by making an existing device even better. At the end of this apprenticeship they strike out on their own, gaining employment in any of the smithing shops around Nagar. This is where they have to invent something from scratch. This can be anything and elevates the Gearsmith to level 3. To reach level 4 a Gearsmith has to be able to modify three things in less than a day, then create a plan for something to work on for their next level. These plans must be drawn out extensively and are checked by at least three high level Gearsmiths before the ceremony that elevates them to level 4. To reach level 5 the Gearsmith must create something that benefits a group of people as a whole, either by making life easier, or by mass producing it for sale. Most Gearsmiths fulfill this clause by making weapons better of inventing another kind of weapon or armor, but are not limited to just that.

Benefits

Benefits of being in the Gearsmith Guild include lodging, advances for inventions, and advice on any project without worry about theft of ideas. They can also travel to the different nations and set up in the many dwarven embassy's (always the capital of each nation) to learn about that nations culture and how to improve upon things there.

Proceeding past level 5 is not recorded and is thought to be a secret ceremony given to the Gearsmith by the Highsmith himself. The highest recorded Gearsmith to date was level 9. The Highsmith currently ruling Nagar is Level 8.
