Faeries

Faeries is a general species that applies to all of the fae. Dryads, Sprites, Korreds, Nothems, Fitters, Selkies, Nymphs, and a dozen other types of faeries exist, all coming in a variety of shapes and sizes. They are creatures of pure magic, and as such behave differently according to the Law of Magic. They are so connected to the flow of magic that in some cases they can defy the most basic Laws of nature and physics, like Time and even Space. (Which are thought of as the same in certain scientific circles)

Anatomy

All faeries are designed differently, from winged faeries of tiny size, to the more human sized Nymphs.

Genetics and Reproduction

Faeries reproduce like most species, and the wild sex they frequently do helps that along rather quickly. Sadly the species can't cross breed, so a nymph can not breed with a Selkie, a Satyr can't breed with a nixie, etc... This doesn't stop them from trying however.

Social Structure

Faerie kind is ruled by a Court and a King or Queen, usually chosen on the principal of lineage, though if a line dies out they can choose another in a rare ritual called a Revel.

All faerie kind can see in absolute darkness and can even percieve things that are invisible

Faeries think of beauty as a blend of nature and magic. Anything that has both is the prettiest thing they can think of.

History

Faeries were created when the Goddess Syll first began helping design nature. She wanted something to compliment the balance of nature and beings, and beings of magic seemed like the perfect way to accomplish that. They were her children and Tamia was her little project long before Dava caused the Starfall that decimated the planet. When the refugee's came she told her children to play nice, yet never knew that the elves would go as far as they did. She helped her children escape the world she had created, giving them the spell of vanishing and bringing them to a separate dimension.

Common Myths and Legends

The only deep myths that are held as legend is the formation of the Goblins. Far enough back that no faeries can remember the truth, it was told that dark faeries contacted demons and made a pact to kill the faerie Queen. This helps the secret Shadow Court, as any reference to them is deflected to the goblins dark times.

Faeries & Magic

While faeries are magic creatures, they rarely actually cast magic. Instead they can ask small things of the elements, like glamours and charms, but nothing too big. Likewise since they are creatures of magic they are resistant to many of the elemental forces around them, never being uncomfortable in extremem heat or cold, and taking very little damage from spells of the same variety.
