House of Nature's Wonder

Written by Salen

The House of Nature's Wonder attracts many different species to their ranks of followers, as well all walks of life. Those that worship the Lady of Magic find her love of nature and magical energies that surround us all a comfort. Elves, Half-elves, and humans all come to praise the Goddess, as do the faeries. Rumor has it that the faeries are actually her first children that she created, but the church has never substantiated this claim. In general worship, woodsman, mages, and even some adventurers pay her service.

History

The House of Nature's Wonder, devoted to Syll, Goddess of Nature and Magic, was created right when the elves took in the faeries as allies. The faeries told the elves that their Goddess was their Mother and the two bonded famously. The Priests that preached her words built the foundations of this church with the faeries in 15 SR and kept her tenants alive through the dark times. When the elves went too far, they actually found that the Rangers (full fledged priests of her faith) lost their prayers, but attributed this to the humans at war with them. Once the war was over and the faeries were gone, those powers came back, but much reduced. The truth is that this church was started long before the races came here, right after the destruction of Star Fall, around 5 SR by a group of faeries.

Divine Origins

The origin of the House of Nature's Wonder is embedded in the ages. Started right away by a priest of Syll and the Faerie princess, they brought the realm of magic to every elf and human that would listen. Magic steeped in nature built the elven cities and sheltered the people. In recent decades the Rangers wander the forests and protect the raw nature from destruction using both prayers and magic.

Tenets of Faith

The Tenants of Syll's faith are very simple, although she is anything but simple. She implores her followers to:
  • Protect the natural world.
  • Respect the power of magic in all things.
  • Make sure that magic is never abused in any form.
  • Throw down workers of magic that use it for destruction and gain.

Worship

The everyday people worship Syll with magic and blossoms. She is called upon for rituals and spells, as well as consecrating groves and gardens. Woodsman, elves, mages, and even some adventurers pay her service. Her prayers are heard more in the morning hours of wakefulness
Syll, Guide this spell so that the balance can be preserved!

Priesthood

The Church is made up of different titles and positions throughout the land, though everyone begins as an acolyte. The acolytes are found in every place of worship from the smallest shrine to the largest church. The acolytes keep the lights on and the doors ready to welcome any who come to them for support. The Rangers are full workers of miracles and after a lifetime of service they can attain the title of Druid. The title of Druid is held by only 2 people at one time, each roaming the land seeking out places of deep magic in the untamed wilderness.

Granted Divine Powers

Syll grants prayers to her loyal Rangers (acolytes cannot cast prayers). These prayers can take the form of anything the Priest needs at the moment, from healing a tree of wound in the earth, to calling upon the roots to entangle their enemies. Below is a quick list of just some of the Prayers that have been recorded in the history books:
  • Heal Nature - restore a part of wounded nature (tree, bush, ground etc..)
  • Armor of the Earth - surround yourself with bark or rock to ward off blows
  • Entangling Vines - Call the roots and vines to entangle a group of enemies.
  • Shield blessing - Turn allies armor and shields to wood and make them stronger.
