Nation of Syll
The nation of Syll is located in Western Tamia, situated mostly in the forest of S'ren. The People of Syll are mainly elven with a large population of half-elves, and a small gathering of humans in the capitol. Many villages can be found in the tree tops of the huge trees in the forest of S'ren, and the elves use their magic to sculpt dwellings out of the very bark and branches. In the plains below the forest, the villages are mostly farms, cultivating fruits and vegetables and some livestock.
Capitol City & Rulership
The capitol of Syll is Lyl The Shining City. This glorious city, carved out of natural crystal deposits in the ground centuries ago, is the bastion of elven elegance. Crystal spires and buildings made from marble can be seen as you stroll down the cobblestone streets. Swan copters, airships, and flying mages soar over head, as warriors patrol the land keeping the villages safe. Here the King of the elves sits on his silver throne in Crystalspear castle. The King is elected by trial of combat, both physical and magical, from a list of candidates when the current post is empty. Whomever bests all challengers becomes the new ruler. A tournament hasn't been called in centuries, yet with the threat of war on their doorstep, many an elf has found themselves ready.Magic & Technology
Syll is also where the main seat of magic is found throughout all of Tamia. It is here that the magic chapters are found; as elves, or those with elven blood, are the only ones suitable to fully cast magic. The Magi here train for decades to study the rituals and incantations to call upon the elements, and the archmagi sit over them with a critical eye. Joining the Magus Guild is a choice that most elves hunger for from an early age, and admittance is lorded over other young elves like a trophy. The Chapter houses each represent an element, with Air having the most influence within the capitol city. Syll is home to the main airship factory on Tamia, and many designs of elven make can be found here. Swan ships with glorious wings of feathers, balloons with silver filaments, and even smaller copters with blades of gleaming steel are sold across Tamia. Only the dwarves give the elves a run for the market in production. The only downside to the nation of Syll is that they do not believe in wheels, and as such there is no coal for sale for private use. It is reserved for the Gearrails and airships only.History
The history of Syll is like most other nations. After the elves came here from their shattered isles, they looked for a suitable place to start over again. they had found the faeries and other sylvan creatures of this land and worked to make them allies despite the other races shunning them. They found the forest of S'ren and with the help of the faeries started creating cities and villages of their own. After two decades the elves had growing cities up and met with the first of a string of border skirmishes against the dwarves and humans. Not long after that the fighting escalated, starting the First War. For years they fought against the other burgeoning nations, their magic always letting them come out on top of most of the engagements, yet they were one against many.Over the Line
With a war on two front wearing them down, the elves held a council of the highest magi, the Archmagi. These three elves experimented with new techniques on boosting their magic, and in the end they found a way. Unfortunately it would leave a stain on their semi-immortal souls for a very long time. They enslaved faeries and tapped into their very life force to power their spells. Since faeries were connected to the fabric of magic this worked wonders, boosting their magic to the point where they could take down mountains. The dwarves were the first to fall, retreating into their mountains in the south and pulling the rocks in after them. The humans, stubbornly, kept fighting; calling upon their Gods to help them fight back. Their sacrifice gave the faeries the resolve to fight back themselves, fighting fiercely against their imprisonment and finally gaining freedom. They fled to the safety of their own dwindling nation, Nym, and worked a great spell of vanishing, disappearing from the world for good. This left the boosted magic of the elves temporarily stagnant, and the humans fought them to a standstill after many years.Geography
The majority of the cities of Syll can be found within the boundries of the Forest of S'ren. This forest has trees that are ancient and are so big that whole villa's are fashioned out of a set of branches or even in the hollow of a tree. Some of the trees are 25 - 45 feet in diameter at the base with some reaching 50 near the center of the wood.
Gearrail Tracks
The Gearrail tracks that run through the forest were done by an elven/dwarven team. Because of this they were placed in such a way as to clear very little trees and mostly ones that had died or were already fallen. Those that weren't were moved gently by magic and those that couldn't be saved were used to help build any other structures needed for the tracks. The end result was a marvel of nature and it is said that the view going through the forest is one of the wonders of this age.Elemental Focus
Each of the four nations are tied to one of the elements. When magic of that type is used in that nation it has a stronger effect than anywhere else across Tamia. The primary element in Syll is Air and magic cast here that involves that element is boosted to make things float and fly with ease, including elven warriors. Whenever a mage uses air to do these things, the effect lasts up to eight hours instead of mere minutes.

Worship of Syll
It is no coincidence that the elven nation is named after there reverent Goddess. When they first arrived the elven priests called to their Goddess to show them the way and behold! The way was found. Some say that they actually were led by a beautiful elven woman, twisting through the forest to where the first settlements were created; others say that they followed a guiding light, boobbing and weaving through the trees. However the story goes, the elves then named their new nation after the Goddess that they worshipped. Fitting really as she is the Goddess of Magic and Nature, and is on the lips of every elf when they cast magic.Elven Anger
One of the tenants of elven life is abolishing anger. Not entirely of course, emotionless warriors are a hazard in the best of times. No, just the opposite. Anger is for the field of battle only. When an elf goes into battle they focus their anger and rage and fuels it into their weapon or spells. It's off the field however that anger is not allowed. Everyday citizens of the elven realm of Syll are kind and curious beings, never using anger in the day to day workings of their life. To do so is actually against the law and enough violations could actually lead to deathRemove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
