Ruins of Rhanmar

Written by Salen

Rhanmar used to be a sprawling dwarven city in the western Black Mountains. It was the gateway to the nation of Nagar and the first bastion against the attacks of the elves during the First War. When the dwarves retreated they went through Rhanmar and tried to drop the entrance behind them. Most of the dwarves went on to the other cities then, licking their wounds, but the majority of the dwarven host stayed at Rhanmar to make sure the way was sealed. Turns out it wasn't.

Western Tunnels

These tunnels used to lead to the main concorse, and anyone walking through there would see the beautiful shops and forges pumping out bladed weapons and armor, as well as artwork, gemcraft, and other niceties. Now the tunnels are all but collapsed, barely having crawl spaces to get through. What buildings that are left and hollow structures barely able to keep the moisture of the cave roof from dripping in during the humid months.

Eastern Tunnels

Though these fared better than the Western tunnels, they still are mostly impassable. These tunnels led to the outskirts of the city and most of the dwellings as the tunnels circled around to the north. They used to connect back with the mina concorse as well, but some great tremor must've blocked the whole thing, because there isn't even any gaps for air to get through.

Purpose / Function

Rhanmar;s purpose was simple. It was meant to be the trade way to the outside world. When the First War started, they turned it into a military city/base and operated out of here until the end.

Alterations

Durinf the First War the tunnels were widened a bit and some armaments were added to certain parts of the city. Women and children were sent on to the other cities that were in the process of being built, and the dwarven force took over the city.

Architecture

Thr Ruins of Rhanmar don't have structure anymore. Mianly rubble and impassable tunnels, what's left of Rhanmar is in sad shape. Determined adventurers can find their way through, mostly, but there isn't any set path to traverse this random destroyed city.

History

Much of the history of this city is lost to the raveges of time. The rest of the dwarves in Nagar had no idea of the battle they fought or the danger they were all in until the "Accounts of Rhanmar" surfaced in 765 SR. Up until then, the mysterious fall of Rhanmar was thought to be a curse. (for more on this battle, see "The Accounts of Rhanmar")

Lost Wonders

Why would adventurers risk their lives crawling through the runis about to collapse all around them you ask? Well it seems that some of the high ranking dwarven warriors that were lost that day had some legendary weapons with them. Rumors put "Anrnar", theAxe of Fire somewhere in Rhanmar, as well as the sword "Demonsbane"
