Abberant Dragonmark
Causes
The cause of Dragonmarks, let alone the Aberrant Mark, is unknown though some suspect it is a manifestation of divine Progenitor Dragon magic and is the fulfilment of aspects of the Draconic Prophecy. Most commonly, the Aberrant Mark appears in children who were born of two parents with differing Dragonmarks.
Symptoms
The marks manifest themselves as a chaotic, unique, and intricate body markings of deep red and black hue colour. The magical abilities of Aberrants tend to be more powerful and difficult to control than regular marks.
Treatment
There is no known treatment for the Mark once it has manifested however, wholesale slaughter of existing Aberrants and the prevention of intermingling among people with differing marks has kept the number of Aberrants low.
Affected Groups
The Aberrant Mark appears indiscriminately among the sentient speices in Khorvaire, though most commonly occurring in a child born of a union between differently marked individuals.
History
Five hundred years before the formation of Galifar, Aberrants were hunted down by The Twelve in a purge that became known as the War of the Mark. This conflict ended with the destruction of Sharn by a powerful Aberrant leader named Halas Tarkanan and the Lady of the Plague.
During The Last War, Aberrants were used by Breland as suicide soldiers. Eventually rebelling, the Aberrants fled to Sharn and formed House Tarkanan (labeled criminal organization by authorities).
Since The Mourning, Aberrant Marks have begun to appear more frequently.
Cultural Reception
Those with Aberrant Marks are met with fear, derision, and paranoia owing to the alien nature of the Mark and increased power. The Twelve still persecute those with Aberrant Marks so they tend towards the seedy underbelly and criminal organizations or far flung regions, away from prying eyes.
