Session 24: Brucos Rescues Philip

General Summary

Factory Fight pt. 2

  • The session picked up with the Crypt Crew preparing themselves inside the hidden factory, waiting to see what was about to emerge from the elevator. The group had started to grow rather light-headed and woozy, as a headache started to set in. The elevator eventually ground to a halt, and creaked open to reveal...a piece of parchment.
  • Ashpin went to collect the parchment, and saw the words "Only entrance means...only exit." Just then, the parchment itself erupted into flame, catching Ashpin, Viribus, and nearby crates in the flames. The elevator was now in shambles, covered in stone, dirt, and rubble.
  • The Crew began searching the warehouse again, hoping to find some sort of other way out. Nothing too concrete was found, at least not before another sound could be heard from the remnants of the elevator shaft. Everyone took their positions...and all hell broke loose.
  • Viribus, N'nchyk, and Sylvain immediately dropped unconscious. A bluish-green portal began to open, and a menagerie of creatures began to fly through. A water elemental engulfed N'nchyk and Verin from the boiling water below, and metallic creatures burst through the walls to engage Viribus and Ashpin.
  • The battle was clearly designed to take advantage of the exact weaknesses of the Crew. The party fought valiantly, but before long, the remains of the construct were collected, the creatures retreated, and the portal closed.
  • Spider'chyk snuck out of the factory, heeding the aid of the nearby Sharn Watch, who were battling a fire down the street. N'nchyk used his innate water abilities to put out the fire and vomit, in order to get the Watch to help him.
  • It took about 7 hours, but the Crew was eventually dug out from the remains of the elevator shaft.

Discovering the Lighter

  • The Crew felt they were out of options. The man with the machine head disappeared, the Codex of Tsll Y'gall was gone, and Philip was still in the custody of the Boromar Clan.
  • The best idea they could discern was to contact Brucos, but they seemingly had no way how. Viribus decided to search his mansion, since it was a gift from him, and in fact discovered a magical lighter that would allow for transcription of messages.
  • Viribus told Brucos that they got in over their head, and needed help obtaining a tablet. Brucos responded, saying they didn't need the tablet, they needed their friend. And perhaps they should try checking his house.
  • Sure enough, Philip was back in his home. Exhausted, worn, and with a circular indent in his hair where the hat lay. After confirming that it was in fact the Philip they knew, he recounted his story.
    • He was kept in the cave, under the supervision of the hippo guards, halflings, and Remilda the mage. Throughout his time, he heard continual movement from outside the cave, moving back and forth throughout.
    • Out of nowhere, he heard a voice inside his head, saying it was an ally of the Crypt Crew, and that he must follow along if he wanted to survive. An individual cloaked in black and green appeared, saying that the prisoner was his to sacrifice in the name of the Blood of Vol.
    • The guards all opened fire on the individual. Arrows and projectiles from the halflings and hippo guards land true, but they merely glanced off harmlessly. One of the hippo’s lobbed explosives landed directly in the person's space, but after a small explosion and the smoke cleared, the individual looked as unharmed as ever. Even the sleek arcane missiles of Remilda did absolutely nothing, seemingly glancing right off the cloaked individual.
    • A hippo guard attempted a point-blank shot at the back of the individual’s head, but they don’t even flinch, the projectile merely splintering on impact. The individual in the emerald cloak turned towards the guard, and with a single whisper in the hippo’s ear, the guard’s expression shifts from fear to determination as his firearm turns against his allies.
    • That was the last thing Philip remembered before everything went to black, and he suddenly reappeared in a lower district of Northedge. The individual removed the cloak to reveal a man with a lavish tunic, pointed beard, and yellowish-orange eyes.
  • As the party was listening to this story, Brucos himself entered, accompanied by an incredibly expensive bottle of Korunda 615.
  • With his trademark smirk, he said that he was insulted that they hadn't asked for his help with the Boromar Clan sooner. He knows what it’s like to have an infection like the Boromar infesting his home, and he wished to help you remove them. But, if you want to destroy a strong, ancient tree, you don’t take a knife to the branches, you burn it from the roots.
  • Brucos told the Crew where one of these roots lie: in the northeastern Graywall Mountains that separate Droaam from Breland. It's easy to imagine just the kind and quantity of goods the mafia could obtain from the monstrous nation.
  • If the Crew removes this source, one way or another, and even (credibly) reveals where the mafia is sourcing their goods from, the organization could collapse from the inside, given time, and patience.
  • Lastly, but not least, Brucos informed the party that the Boromar Clan was quick to flood the black markets with a portion of their equipment, which he was more than happy to obtain. It was waiting for them inside Ashpin's vault, along with a gift of his own. That was, except for N'nchyk's journal; and as he departed, N'nchyk hurried out to speak with him.
