Session 46: Viribus' Resurrection

General Summary

Dragged Back from Dolurrh

  • Maleakos huddled over the corpse of Viribus, the relic resting on his chest. Viribus was horribly bruised, bloodied, with visceral gashes and lacerations all over. The rest of the Crew, plus Philip and Magrora, were huddled around in anxiety. Even the Professor somehow looked worried. A chill sat in the cabin that has nothing to do with the winter storm raging outside. The only ones asleep were Njord, curled up by the fading light of the flickering hearth, and Glorker, face down in a plank on one of the soggy rugs.
  • This was the scene at Viribus' body. He had ventured into the storm alone, only to return dead. The Crew began helping Maleakos in any way, with potions, medicine, and even a mushroom from a seizing N'nchyk.
  • And even with all the contributions of the Crew, it took a mighty effort on the part of Maleakos to complete the resurrection, bringing the energy of the Relic of Life or Destruction. The darkness seeped out from the relic, as the choice of life had been made.
  • Two voices rang out as Viribus came to. One came from the hardly-formed blade in his hand, calling for him to gain more power, to do more. The other was much warmer, ringing out after Njord curled up next to him. It told him power for power's sake is a path to ruin, and that he must find strength in unity.

The Ostensibly Suspicious Tree

  • Magrora spoke up once again, thanking the Crew for saving her, and that she wouldn't be able to thank them. She built up the nerve to ask them if she could stay with them, but no one in the Crew was eager to accept. Philip said that the elves they were going to would probably be her best bet. N'nchyk kept offering to bring her in advance, but Magrora said she felt much safer with the Crew than just N'nchyk.
  • The Crypt approached one of their waypoints: Tryggsylfen, the Great Oak. It contained a beautiful garden and the remnants of some previous settlers. The Crew solved the puzzles with ease, and gleaned the gifts within. But only after briefly squabbling over who gets the cool leaf or magic branch.
  • After the tree, the Crew finally saw the mountains in the distance. It was an amazing feeling, considering everything they'd been through and overcome. Philip clearly felt the same way, as he led the Crew onto the porch to have a brief heart-to-heart.
  • At Philip's advice, Ashpin rode ahead on Sylvain to meet the Enclave of the Valley ahead of The Crypt. He was greeted by Sylgwyn, who had been polymorphed into a panther. Ashpin explains that Aegoth had sent them, and that they required information on Droaam and White Plume Mountain from Lorend.
  • The Crew set down the hut nearby, N'nchyk helping to conceal it with Plant Growth. Regardless, Sylgwyn said they would look after it.
  • They were lead to a humble camp with tents and watchtowers, but that was not the true Enclave. Sylgwyn led the Crew down a deep stone staircase, and into a vast underground settlement. A magnificent waterfall to the right flowed heavily from a cliff face, cutting through the village center, before flowing down even further. Beautiful buildings of emerald, wood, stone, and marble were everywhere, and massive gardens of silver trees and vibrant flowers were intertwined in the gaps of the constructions. High above their heads, illuminating the whole of the space, was a dimly glowing orb that you’d swear to be a moon. This was the Enclave of the Valley.
