Session 9: 50th Anniversary Dinner

General Summary

Conversations and Clues

  • The party resumed in Theobald's tower, where he had almost forgotten a few things. He handed Ashpin a very old, wrinkled parchment, saying he had done what he could to find out about this Brucos they had been hearing about. The parchment was a guest list from the Tain Gala, found in the records kept in the Loft's basement. Theobald also said they were still working on getting the artifact case open - this time using the magical acid from a copper dragon.
  • Theobald wished the party well, saying he may be leaving for a good while soon. After Ashpin asked where, he said he might be heading to Zyddrydem, leaving Torfe in charge.
  • After exiting the Loft, Viribus said he'd meet the party at Philip's house, as he had a purchase he needed to make. The rest of the group made their way to the now-familiar home, and were greeted by an absolutely delighted Philip. He invited them all into the dining room, where a delicious meal had been prepared, spread across two tables that had been pushed together to accommodate all the guests. Alice set a special dish she had prepared for N'nchyk - a mushroom quiche.
  • It was a delicious steak meal, and the party exchanged stories about what they had been up to during the previous week. Philip struck up a conversation with Dooturr, admitting he has battled undead in the past, but none of which exhibited such mental acumen or intelligence as Dooturr. Dooturr revealed him and several of his brethren are from the Mournland, which would explain his distinction from other skeletons and undead. When asked, Dooturr said that the skeletons did not have their own society, but perhaps creating one is possible.
  • The conversation reminded Philip of something, and he gave Dooturr a piece of origami in the shape of a skull. On the back was carefully written "In Remembrance of Vinnie."
  • Philip also asked if the party if they had ever found out what those scrolls from the Cogs had said, saying that perhaps their wizard friend was a resource they could use. They also remembered they had obtained a spell scroll of Comprehend Languages in the office in Shiksu's mansion.
  • Dinner was finished - Philip passing around larkleaf as a post-dinner depressant - but there was still a couple hours remaining before the airship took off.

Errands and Wocky Slush

  • Philip warned the party of the Boromars on the airship, saying they should be careful of flaunting their newly acquired wealth in front of the halflings. N'nchyk and Maleakos followed Philip to the basement, where he revealed a hidden room created for the Last War. The room was also where they kept their hobbyist alchemy lab. The Bromance stored several items and a good deal of their wealth in the room, to which Philip was not delighted, but tolerated nonetheless.
  • Meanwhile, Verin escorted Ashpin to one of the House Kundarak banks in the Korran Thiven finance district of Upper Central Plateau. Ashpin opened a standard security currency savings account, being issued a small metal card with his name, country of origin, (laboriously obtained) date of birth, and an ID number prefixed by S. The dwarf helping Ashpin seemed to imbue the card with some sort of magical essence, part of which was drawn from Ashpin himself. When he was handed the card, Verin noticed that the card looked blank to him, but not to Ashpin.
  • N'nchyk also went to the Copper Arch district of Upper Tavick's Landing, obtaining a license to purchase magical items. He was given many strange looks, but received the license nonetheless. Meanwhile, Dooturr purchased a cup of ice, smashing it with the butt of his dagger to create some slush, and infused it with some of the larkleaf given to him by Philip. He kindly shared a handful with some passing thugs.
  • Finally, the party reconvened at Philip's, Viribus having finally returned from purchasing a brand-new cloak. He had difficulty navigating the city on his own, and had spent several hours trying to locate Philip's house. With everyone present, the Crew set off for Olladra's Succor, the airship casino.

If I Had a Nickel...

  • Finally, the group made their way to the platform of the airship, getting ready to purchase their tickets. As soon as they entered the platform, several Boromars turned to glare at Dooturr. As he went up to purchase his ticket, one of the halflings emerged to speak with Dooturr, saying one of his friends wanted to speak with him, and led him down the hallway.
  • A few anxious seconds passed, with Verin speaking with the Boromar at the desk, while Maleakos tried to sneak by and N'nchyk conjured a spider to send down the hall. Very quickly, however, a loud CRACK was heard, and Dooturr emerged from the room with a splinter sticking out of his skull, escorted by two Boromars, and was promptly removed from the premises.
  • N'nchyk and Maleakos followed him out, while the rest of the party finished purchasing their tickets and made their way onto the ship. Verin had a brief encounter with the Boromars, where he pretended to be completely oblivious to...everything. After a brief amount of time, the newly disguised Dooturr re-entered the platform under the guise of a Sharn Watch guard. Maleakos and N'nchyk also joined after some more time had passed.
  • It was a very crowded and noisy place, with dice rolling and dragonslots clacking. Some bought drinks while others played games, Philip in particular having a good time. The ALP fellas ran into a familiar Boromar, who took them into a different room and explained that they were calling in their favor. There was an incident at a warehouse involving dead members of their Clan and a stolen object that is desirable to them. They asked them to retrieve the object and return it to them at a specified location in Lower Dura.
  • Maleakos and N'nchyk caught up with Paddy's old college friend Drondur, who was happy to see him and catch up once again. He wore an uncharacteristic robe, and when Paddy and N'nchyk both began trying to investigate, he grew uncomfortable and excused himself.
  • The party each purchased a ticket to the lower deck, everyone desiring to see the lizard race. On the way down, N'nchyk transformed into a lizard and leapt into Viribus' hands, hoping to enter the race himself. The Boromar running the race was suspicious of both Verin and Viribus - saying the lizards were provided by the casino - especially when they offered to bet large sums of money on their provided lizard. The Boromar grabbed "Ned" to have him inspected, tossing him into a separate room.
  • The Boromar in that room had a hard time trying to catch lizard N'nchyk, before giving up and simply casting a spell to detect magic, which he indeed detected. He gave "Ned" one chance to reveal himself before squishing him like a bug. N'nchyk shifted back into his "normal" triton self, and began pleading his case to the halfling. After relieving him of some of his money and tossing a peace-offering invisibility mushroom into the corner, the Boromar asked N'nchyk to lead him to his friends, but refused. After a long negotiation, the halfling finally settled with a favor, and finding out who N'nchyk's friends were on his own.
  • After betting on their respective lizards and watching a very exciting race, the party called it a night as the airship returned to its dock. The slightly buzzed Philip started making his way back to his house with the rest of the Crew, while the Bromance hung behind the rest of the group, having a rather sad chat.
  • Eventually, they broke off from the rest, and decided to try and find a roundabout way to Philip's house. It took them a significant amount of time longer, especially after running into a peddler that was juggling a large stack of pots and pans. Maleakos attempted to help, but tried grabbing from the bottom of the Jenga pile, sending all the pots and pans tumbling. After glancing at Maleakos' tail and horns and grumbling, he was immediately grappled and vaguely threatened by the drunk tiefling, with the peddler looking extremely terrified.
  • Alice once again told the group to make themselves at home, offering a late-night tea or coffee, but the exhausted group elected to settle in for a good night's rest in the comfort of Philip's home.
