House Kundarak

House Kundarak, the Dragonmarked House of Dwarves, specializes in security and banking services. Their clientele includes those with substantial wealth and assets to protect, such as the wealthy, the powerful, other dragonmarked houses, and even state governments. They are the wealthiest dragonmarked house, with banking establishments spread throughout Khorvaire. Kundarak excels in safeguarding valuables, secrets, and even prisoners.   The Defenders Guild of House Kundarak trains locksmiths, security specialists, and other experts, and they oversee the renowned prison of Dreadhold, along with several smaller prisons. However, it's the Banking Guild that defines the house, rooted in Kundarak's lands in the Mror Holds, which boast abundant precious metal resources.   They have established Khorvaire's banking industry, and many involved in the coin-based economy, from bankers to goldsmiths, often learn their trade at House Kundarak. The security of banks bearing the Kundarak manticore emblem is legendary. Moreover, they offer exclusive extradimensional vaults that enable clients to store their possessions in one location and retrieve them from any other Kundarak enclave.   House Kundarak maintains a close alliance with House Sivis, sharing a commitment to building trust with clients and upholding a reputation for unwavering integrity. They strongly disapprove of renegade dwarves exploiting their marks for personal gain, prompting such individuals to avoid attracting Kundarak's attention.   Amid increasing conflicts between the dwarves of the Mror Holds and the Daelkyr, Lord Morrikan d'Kundarak has instructed house heirs to establish connections with the Gatekeepers. Both the house and the druids are protectors of Eberron, sharing common goals in warding off the daelkyr.

Dragonmark

House Kundarak possesses the Mark of Warding, granting its bearers the ability to secure and protect various items, documents, and currency. This unique mark makes them the leading provider of top-notch security services. With their expertise in safeguarding valuables and their reputation for unyielding protection, House Kundarak stands as the foremost authority in the field of security.

History

In its early years, House Kundarak started as a small clan within an ancient underground dwarven empire. During that time, they volunteered to guard the entrance, Korunda Gate, to prevent twelve rebellious clans guilty of serious crimes from returning to the surface. Settling above ground, the Kundaraks spent centuries protecting the gate until eventually sealing it.   Around 2500 years ago, the Mark of Warding appeared, just before Karrn the Conqueror seized the Mror Holds and subjugated the exiled dwarf clans. With Kundarak's consent, the sealed gates were opened, but it was too late as the empire had already fallen due to the daelkyr's devastation. This tragic event rendered Kundarak's role redundant, and whether they hold a grudge against Karrnath for abolishing their duty remains unknown.   House Kundarak found renewed purpose with the aid of the gnomes of Zilargo and House Sivis, forming an official dragonmarked house in 106 YK. To achieve this status, Kundarak agreed to halt mining operations within Korunda Gate, instead leasing their ancestral lands to others for mining.   During the Last War, House Kundarak played a crucial financial role rather than a direct military presence, leading to its prominence as a banking establishment. A financial alliance with the Mror Holds during the war resulted in the latter declaring independence twenty years into the conflict.   As the war's duration extended, the nations of Khorvaire accumulated heavy debts with House Kundarak, relying on large loans for equipment and provisions. At the war's end, all nations owed Kundarak significant sums. To ensure payment, Kundarak demanded the Treaty of Thronehold include an order for nations to settle their debts.
