Bonus Side Quest: Rescue Party Report

General Summary

Welcome Back to Eberron...

(Rare) You are alone on a sea of ice. The chill rips through you like thousands of tiny knives, prickling you with sharp pains, even as your fingers, nose, and tail go numb. A familiar blue beacon shines on the horizon. The snow begins to accumulate around your knees as your frozen form stands in silent shock. The only sound in your ears is the whipping of the wind, and you no longer feel the comfort of Glacias' thoughts in your mind. You stand there for what feels like ages as the cold creeps past your limbs and into your chest. You find yourself unable to scream- the air frozen in your lungs.   Suddenly, the wind begins to howl, and in the ferocity of those gusts you hear a new sound. It's almost imperceptable at first, but then is drowns out the gale that swirls around you. "ALONE" the raspy voice screams at you. You want to cover your ears, but your arms won't move. You feel the ice beneath your feet tremble, and hear the snapping of the surface breaking beneath your feet. Almost thirty feet in the distance, snow begins to fall through the ground, forming a trench that slowly makes it's way toward you. The cracking sound gets louder, and you are caught by surprise as the ice beneath your feet collapses, and you plummet into a dark chasm.   As the darkness envelops you, a murmur reaches your ear from somewhere else. A feminine voice, chanting something in a language you do not know. A bright light strikes your eyes and you blink... you blink. A warm breeze blows against your face and you feel a solitary tear fall down your cheek.

At the Mansion

Ashe is the person who restored Rare from her petrified form. She learned the ritual as a Priestess of Shadow, and performs it as a service after a game of Six Stones.
  • Ashe went to the Crooked Mirror looking for the Sharn Dragons, but was quickly informed of the night's events by Chaela Tas, who had somehow been informed of how the night was unfolding at the Boromar Mansion.
  • She was driven out from her sanctuary in The Cogs by the militant Daask cell, which forced her to stay hidden in Tinker's Green Dragon to avoid an assassin coming to take her life.
  • Cavallah saw the priestess as a threat because Ashe is the spiritual center for the goblins in Sharn, diametrically opposed to the goblin's plans.
  • Ashe was quick to offer her assistance, but only if Rare and Erisna promised to use their relationship with the Tyrants to have Keth released by the changeling gang's leader.

  • Before departing, they found Seraphina Boromar, and relayed to the old halfling fighter what had happened at the main entrance.
  • Seraphina led the fight on the west side of the house against several gnolls. She seemed to have been aided by Muninn.
  • After hearing that Therin had been captured, Seraphina retreated to her tent and brought back her double-bladed scimitar. She asked Rare to bring it to him.
  • FInally, Seraphina told Rare and Erisna that Rikkon Teaspoon had been killed on the east side of the building during the fight.

  • Back in Lower Dura

Ashe brought the heroes to Tinker's Green Dragon where they met with Chaela Tas. The half-elf brought them to see Tyrant One to parley for Keth's release. He agreed, on the condition that the half-orc bounty hunter leave Sharn once the business with Cavallah was complete. He released Keth, beaten, bruised, and missing his left eye. Before they left, Tyrant One (re-introducing himself as "Eck") passed on the following information:
  • With Whyrwhyr gone, there are four more lieutenants in the Daask cell: Delakash, Zaeran, Harash, and an unknown entity at Morgrave University.
  • Tyrant One will employ his network to discover the hidden entity in Morgrave, and will use "Nigel Shattershield" to tip off the Sharn Watch.

  • Cutting through an eerily empty Callestan on their way back to Malleon's Gate, the heroes came across Gorric Bowleg walking through the streets, bloody and dirty from the night's fighting. Giving the halfling a wide berth, they watched as he stood wordlessly at his old post in front of the Boromar Estate.

    Tarkanan Assistance

Zae Tarkanan arrived at Tinker's Green Dragon unannounced the next morning. She informed Rare that her rats watched as Harash took his captives deep below Sharn, into an area that she was not familiar with. Keth confirmed that he had heard a rumor of an old prison below The Cogs, and he may be able to help find it. Ashe insisted they stop by her sanctuary so that she could retrieve the supplies she would need to perform the restoration ritual. Additionally, Zae told Rare the following:
  • Someone had just attacked a Tarkanan safehouse near Sharn's Welcome. The current assumption is that it is the work of the Sons of Siberys. Rotting Bal and a team from the school left to go scout it out and report back later.
  • She was moved to Tavin Manor in Dragon Towers to stay away from all the gang warfare. This will limit the dragonmarked halfling's abilities for a while.

  • Descent into Dolsharn

Erisna, Rare, Keth, Tinker, and Ashe departed for the prison beneath The Cogs. While en route, they infiltrated Ashe's sanctuary and retreived the priestess' material components. Afterwards, Keth expertly navigated the catacombs beneath Khyber's Gate, leading the party to a bridge over a magma river that led to Dolsharn.
While crossing the bridge, they were distracted by two small magma mephits while a fire elemental lurked below them. The ensuing battle was brutal. Keth found himself grappled by the fire elemental and thrown into the magma below. Rare, knowing that the half-orc had only moments to live, channeled as much cold energy as she could muster to cool some of the magma near Keth, and compelled Glacias to try to help. The imp couldn't lift the burly half-orc onto the floating platform, so Tinker dove down to pull him onto the rock and pat out the flames. With another powerful blast of cold energy at the fire elemental, Rare plunged the creature into the flames and Erisna used her prodigious strength to lift her friends back onto the bridge and heal their wounds as best she could.
Sore and exhausted, the party took a moment to try and collect themselves, with Ashe performing a healing ritual to help them steel themselves for the next challenge. As they continued their journey to find their friends, they found Dolsharn to be a crumbling ruin in the depths of the city, filled with goblins managing an excavation project to reclaim the ruins of the old city. The tiefling, half-orc, human, and elf were a foreign addition to that environment, and the goblins immediately noticed their presence. Tinker asked directions to the prison, and helped the party complete the last leg of the journey. Erisna noticed that the goblin seemed extremely uncomfortable in the ruins, but she was unable to draw any further information from the veteran adventurer.
They found the old center of the city, and the building that had been converted to serve as a prison. The entrance to the prison was set along a narrow alley, with rubble piled on each side. Tinker, identified the area as an area that was perfect for an ambush (which it was) and helped the party smoke out the location of the gang of goblins that were lying in wait. During a difficult fight against the elusive goblins, Rare watched as a dark figure used their fight as a distraction to infiltrate the prison.
After defeating most of the goblins, the party rushed into the prison. Inside, they discovered that the entrance hall was empty. They found a pit of acid in the adjoining hall, which they crossed after finding a secret switch at the base of a statue of a Dhakaani emporer. The locked door at the end of the hall had been imbued with a Heat Metal spell as a form of a trap, so Erisna beat down the door with her sword until everyone was able to climb through. On the other side, they found the area of the building that had been converted to a cell block.

    Friends

    Keth the Wandslinger
    Tinker the Master Thief
Ashe joins the party, but refuses to fight against any creature of The Shadow/ Aureon's Shadow. She is able to perform one more Major Restoration as a ritual, and heal three members of the party (25 HP) by performing a different ritual. After that, she is effectively a commoner until she can gather more supplies.

    Glacias

When Rare was petrified, Glacias was banished the plane of his origin. When Rare summoned him again, she discovered that when Glacias isn't serving her he is in a plane of endless ice- desperately trying to fly in a blizzard.
While attempting to solve the puzzle of the penitent pit, Rare asked Glacias to dip a finger in the acid. Extremely offended, Glacias freaked out at the suggestion. Rare withdrew her request before he was compelled to do it by the magic that bound them. He has not forgiven her.
