Eberron
Shards of Eberron Variant
In 2004, The Eberron Campaign Setting introduced D&D fans to Keith Baker's brainchild, the world of Eberron. Eberron is a campaign setting different from previous campaign settings such as The Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk and Dragonlance in that the fundamental structure of the world was different than typical fantasy, yet still held to some of the traditional fantasy elements. Eberron has been described as a gritty pulp noir taking its inspiration from Hollywood classics like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Pirates of the Caribbean and The Mummy among others.
The Eberron campaign setting is also unique in that it is the result of a contest held by Wizards of the Coast to find a new campaign setting. It, among 10,000 other entries, won the hearts of the Wizards staff and thus was produced into an official campaign setting.
This setting is my version of Eberron, defined by the events of several different groups of players that will decide the fate of the world in the coming years. For the most part, it retains as much Eberron canon as possible, but several changes are introduced to propel along plot elements that serve to further the campaigns. Some notable changes include the introduction of Dunmancy as a school of magic, the (slightly) more widespread proliferation of magical firearms, and the three fundamental schools of natural science that better ground magic to something more realistic and scientific.
