HyperDragons!

I met a dragon today!!!! I watched it hatch and then grow from a baby to a massive adult dragon in a matter of minutes. It was terrifying. Then it turned to attack our group, but I was able to cast Suggestion AND IT WORKED!!! The Hyperdragon (this is what we named it since it grew so fast) immediately turned and flew away. I would have loved to suggest that it be friends with us so that I could have spent more time studying it, but that seemed too risky at the time so I went with the simplest option. At least all that time spent learning Draconic wasn't for nothing. IT WAS SO COOL!!!   We also brought back a ton of Siberys shards. The council was very excited about it. We probably should have been compensated better, but at least they are going to use them to continue to develop tech to make the portal safer instead of selling them.

War and Poorly Executed Deception

Well, this was the roughest portal landing we've had yet! We dropped into the middle of a war zone and apparently a rogue lightning bolt set our portal spinning. I ended up crash landing and skidding across the ground. I know I'm not the most graceful person in the world, but that was bad, even by my standards. Anyway, we landed in the middle of a raid, which we later learned has been happening to this town a lot and they finally decided to fight back. The men with the red bandannas were just murdering people without hesitation. It was awful. One of our previous places, the one with the gory portal room recreation, was terrible to see, but this was so much worse. To see this kind of death and destruction happening in real time and have it perpetrated by other living beings. It had me questioning what I'm doing here. But, then we helped them win the fight and while spending time with them afterwards I saw that they would have been unlikely to win without us. They definitely would have had more casualties. They are good people and it feels good to have been able to help them.   I am concerned about Zeke though. He became totally different while we were fighting. I walked past him on the battlefield and he looked right through me, like he had no idea who I was. His eyes were glowing gold and he was incredibly powerful. I've never seen him like that before, but then after he went pretty much catatonic. I remembered how I felt after being in that gory room so I just stayed with him so that he wouldn't be alone, but I felt so helpless. I've never seen anyone so out of control like that and so broken afterwards. I hope I can find a way to help him.   I also got a new book during this visit! I met someone that knew how to create portals intentionally and how to travel to whatever world they wanted to, on purpose! I tried lying to her to prevent her from knowing how little we actually know about all of these things. That did not go well. I'm not built for espionage. However, I finally told her that I couldn't explain everything and she understood and gave me an introductory book on portals. I'm so excited to be able to get some real information so maybe we can make this a little bit safer. Now I just have to figure out where I'll get the next book when I'm done with this one.

The World of Ice and Trolls

We've just left a world of ice that we barely survived. Fortunately, our team is creative and Mist and Ulfgar immediately started creating a wall of ice to shield us. I was able to help with the goal of finding firewood with Tensor's floating disc and a recently learned reduce spell. When the weather finally settled we attempted to explore to discover civilization. Luck was not with us though as we stumbled upon two large snow tigers and a large troll. I attempted my chronal shift ability that I learned last week. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out the way I hoped, but it did give me a chance to use the flip side of that reduce spell and enlarge an actual creature! That ended up working out great! I also dealt the troll the killing blow. I feel slightly better after my abject failure on our first mission. Fortunately, we also survived the stench of the troll's cave where we huddled for safety until the portal reopened. Mist attempted to explore more by flying above the ravine now that the storm had stopped. From a far distance she saw a dragon flying. There is definitely more on this plane to explore, but not anything that we are equipped to deal with right now.   The infuriating part was that when we returned the members of the council that met with us were angry that we didn't attempt to communicate with the troll or the dragon. They equip us with no tools and then expect us to face creatures that don't speak our language and are trying to kill us without defending ourselves. "Oh, hello massive dragon, the weather here has almost killed me, but I was wondering if you would like to take some tea and discuss the differences in our worlds." I can't contain the anger I'm feeling right now. I love the chance I'm getting to see things that others never have, but I'm beginning to wonder if I have made the right choice in joining this project. I believe the council's goal is to have a longer list of dead teams. I guess its up to us to make sure we survive.
