Session 10: Part 1- Exploding Chests
General Summary
Breeza alerts the party at 3am to tell them she has word on the chest they were searching for in Session 9: Movin On Up . The party meets briefly at The Cracked Mirror for details, and then goes to a dark back alley amongst some ruined warehouses in Lower Dura . Ripper has taken to bringing along several animated skeletons he has dressed and outfitted. This, while strange, is at least consistent. The party is somewhat concerned, especially Ice , but they head to the alley regardless.
They find the chest- destroyed- and the remains of the other guards, along with a fresh set of bodies.
Chest- Utterly wrecked, strong arcane residue. This was destroyed with some powerful magic. There are fragments of the item that was inside- looks to have been a golden ring. The party takes fragments of both the ring and the chest for validation. Guards- 5 total. 2 humans (1 male/1 female), 1 dwarf (female), 1 half orc (male), and the leader- a male half elf. All of them were killed in battle, and robbed afterward. About 20 feet away is the muscle. All of them were killed by clean shots from above. Shots are crossbow bolts with magic "force tips"- a very small force blast goes off after it hits. A shot to the head or chest kills instantly. VERY illegal. Pretty hard to find, though they were plentiful in the war. The bodies were hit from two sides (4 shooters total), and look okay. But the wounds are "hollow" and will collapse in on themselves if pressure is applied. Very gross. Muscle- 8 total. All scruffy poor humans, 5 males, 3 females. The matching logos identify them as a small-time gang operating near Cliffside. This is likely all of them. They have 5 sacks of 40 golds, which will line up with payment for the party. The party helps themselves to the gold.

The party confers briefly, then heads to Morgrave University to report the findings to Professor Makeda ir'Zana . She is still in class, but Grophy arrives at her office and waits silently with the party.The Professor arrives and the party gives report.
The conclusion:
-The guards were attacked and killed by the gang. The gang took the chest first, then came back for the bodies.
-The gang dropped the bodies in the alley, then someone or something destroyed the chest with powerful magic. The Professor points out this isn't about any special spell, it just takes a powerful enough magic user.
-The gang is then killed by House Tarkanan .
Grophy isn't happy, but admits the party did their job. He pays them the balance- 300 gold- and tells them the matter is closed until he reports back to his superiors with The Daask . The Professor, running late for her next class, thanks the party and mentions she has additional work if they are interested. The party returns to The Cracked Mirror.
Once they return, Breeza explains they have been developing a bit of a reputation. She has had several inquiries for the group. The options in front of the group right now are:
