Session 17: A Little Prep, A Little Theft
General Summary
Having resolved the delivery of the tablet, the party heads to Morgrave University to meet with Simon Twoorb , their contact for the journey to The Great Crag. They run into Grophy on their way, who asks them to stop by and see Professor Makeda ir'Zana before they leave.
Simon is nervous and has a hard time speaking clearly, but he is obviously passionate about what he does. He makes it clear he is not a fighter, and that desire to not engage in violence seems to help drive his rather unorthodox theory. His theory is The Great Crag is not, in fact, a place of chaos and constant violence. Instead, he believes it to be as civilized and organized as any other city in Khorivare. The journey (outlined below) is 850 miles long and will take 38 days each way. They will travel by boat for the first 100 miles to the city of Moonwatch, where he has hired a wagon and driver. Once they reach Graywall, the city bordering Brelan and Dooram, Simon has a contact who will take them the rest of the way. He anticipates spending two weeks in the city.
The party will leave in 3 days, and before that time will provide a requested list of magic items as part of their payment.
Following their meeting with Simon, the party heads to Professor ir'Zana's office. Grophy meets them just outside, and explains that, while the professor might not appreciate their help, he would consider it a personal favor if they could assist her. He alludes to his work with The Daask as the reason he cannot get involved himself.
Professor ir'Zana is furious when the party arrives. After they calm her, she explains she has been robbed by Professor Petar ir'Moran . She has been hunting the Mournlands for precious tome on eldritch machines, specifically about dimensional seals, for years. Finally, an expedition of adventures found and recovered the tome. However, they were ambushed and murdered on Professor ir'Moran's orders before they could deliver it to her. She pays the party 200gp to retrieve it.
The party find the professor in his office. Celosia and Ripper work together to distract him while Toox searches the office for the book. They discover a hidden area behind an illusionary wall, but not before Ice knocks ir'Moran unconscious out of pure frustration. They find the book in the wall, along with 200gp and a note detailing the delivery instructions. It is signed by a "Benne". Working quickly, Ripper attempts to cover their tracks and they go back to see ir'Zana.
ir'Zana is overjoyed to have the book. She does not know who Benne is, but asks the party to not share her involvement. She thanks them profusely. It is clear she is an ally to the party.
