Session 18: Faire Fun
General Summary
The party meets up with Simon Twoorb at his office in Morgrave University , only to find he and his office have been ransacked. He explains the University cut all funding for the trip, and he had been threatened repeatedly. When he arrived that morning a group of thugs were already in his office. They beat him, wrecked the office, and left.
Celosia healed the professor, and Toox helped him get the basics put back together. At Celosia's offering the Professor chose to leave a book in her apartment for safe keeping.
Fortunately, the Professor also received a letter from House Orien announcing they would take over funding the expedition. The party was to meet their contact in the city of Moonwatch at the edge of the Dagger River's Western Hilt. The group heads to the dock, and despite being observed by some ruffians the group books passage on a private vessel to take them to Moonwatch.
They arrive in the town a few days later and discover their contact is Hazel d'Orien ! She greets them warmly, and takes them to a private room in a well-apportioned inn. She explains their trip has caused a lot of noise amongst Sharn's elite. The Boromar Clan , House Cannith, and several of Sharn's leading families are actively opposed to the journey. Any one of them could have been responsible for the attack and pressuring the University to pull funding. However, House Orien would like the new trade routes with Doraam, and needs to test their lastest vehicle. It is an experimental (and temperamental) horseless carriage named Edhellen . Hazel, seeing their need, pulled some strings to help the party out as a thank you for saving her in Session 16: Touching Dragons . The only ask is to deliver some goods and a message to the leaders of The Great Craag, and to not attempt to look into how the Edhellen works. She is sending along a driver/mechanic, Tarryn Rowntree , who will help them along the way.
After cleaning up, the party enjoys the final day of a week-long founding festival. Ripper stays behind to protect the wagon and chat up some horses. Ice almost literally destroys a hammer and bell game, winning him a fluffy pink unicorn. Toox steals some scarves and learns a second valuable lesson about mimics (with some help from Frances Bryant, a Circlet of Blasting ), and Celosia spends a bit of time as an adorable bunny rabbit.
The party will set off tomorrow morning.
