Session 23: The Death of Delphyne
General Summary
Simon Twoorb spends two days working on making copies of A Collection of the Life and Times of One Tiranil Amastacia, Volume 8, Part 57. During that time, Celosia and Toox consult the Mirror of Memories to see what else can be learned about the Symbol. The details of both activities are included in the Notes section below.
Ripper, meanwhile, works with Tarryn Rowntree to mount a ballista on the roof of the Edhellen. It is now fully armed and by default is manned by Ripper's... compatriots. Simon believes he can help disguise the weapon somewhat, so as to avoid unwanted attention in towns and the like. After that, Ripper and Tarryn improve the defenses on the Edhellen overall. Then, Ripper uses Speak with Animals to see if he can locate the body of Tiranil Amastacia and his familiar, Delphyne. A sparrow provides a rough idea, and Toox is able to confirm it using the observatory.
Following the second day, and the end of Simon's work, Tarryn prepares a feast. The party gather in the tower and Simon explains returning the original copy of this work is more important than anything else. Even knowledge of it's existence would bring a lot of unwanted attention. Simon makes it clear his intention is to find a way to get the book to Aerenal, and he is sorely tempted to end his journey to The Great Crag here and now to accomplish it. However, he trusts the party, and will wait to finish this journey first.
Upon hearing of Ripper's discovery, Simon implores the party to retrieve Tiranil's body. Aerenal elves can be resurrected, and Tiranil in particular should be serving in a place of honor. The party agrees, though it is clear they will have to put Delphyne down. They head into the wood the next morning (after making a few key discoveries around the Wand of Blasting, Used Bag of Holding, and Ring of Mending), and thanks to Ripper's assistance they reach Delphyne's clearing quickly. Putting the wyvern down takes only a moment, though it is not an enjoyable duty for anyone. Thankfully, the body of Tiranil is well preserved, apparently protected by the damaged familiar. Ripper casts Gentle Repose, and Toox finds some payment.

Notes
Simon Twoorb has not slept since finding A Collection of the Life and Times of One Tiranil Amastacia, Volume 8, Part 57. He immediately produced a pair of golden quills, each obviously magical. He cleared a table in the shack and placed the journal on it. Then he put one quill under a blank journal and another under a pile of unbound paper. As he read the book the quills began writing, creating two copies of the journal as he read. He invites you all to take the loose pages as they're finished, and to even write on it if that is helpful.
It takes him two days to finish, and he works almost nonstop. For those that push the issue (or just watch closely) he has a potion that lets him forgo sleep for brief periods. He does not seem stressed, tired, or anything concerning- he just seems wholly focused on the task at hand. He stops only briefly for meals and necessities, and while he will speak briefly during those moments he makes it very clear he does not wish to discuss what he is reading until it is finished.
Celosia uses her Mirror of the Past to focus on the Symbol. Here is what she found.
1) An ornate knife with a jeweled hilt carving the symbol into the flesh of a creature. Based on the background of the image you're pretty sure it was in the murder house you all wrecked previously. You cannot see anything about the people involved. Toox, however, is certain she has seen the dagger before. She is wracking her brain trying to remember where.
2) A dark battlefield involving hundreds of fighters. The twisted forms make it clear these aren't races you've dealt with before, but the symbol flashes on several of the bodies briefly. The savagery seems to flare with the symbol.
3) A crowded street somewhere in Sharn. The image is set too far away to see anyone clearly, but small lights start to appear on some of the bodies, and you get the distinct impression it is the same symbol. As the symbols begin to appear the scene darkens and an overall sense of foreboding grows palpable. This looks to be Middle Tavik's Landing in a more mundane shopping area.
4) The last image appears to be from the point of view of some type of creature, as though your looking out it's eyes. The setting is a blasted hellscape. It is clearly fighting a large monster... it is a deep yellow-orange color, with a very muscular build with bat-like wings coming out of it's back. It strikes "you", sending you sprawling. It is clear this creature is doomed. Without warning, a glowing tear appears in the air to "your" right. There is a clear moment of hesitation, but as the monster begins to bear down on "you", "you" turn and jump into the glowing tear.
