Eberron

6/1/998YK

Created by

Long ago, three god-like progenitor dragons came together with the goal of creating a world. They were Siberys of Light, Khyber of Darkness, and Eberron the Motherly. Arriving in an empty void, they started shaping it in their images but Khyber and Siberys despised each other and so when it when they created the planes of existence, they created dark and light worlds to spite one another. Eventually, when it came time to create the material world, their rivalry became so bitter, that an argument ensued that escalated into an all-out fight, where Khyber tore Siberys to shreds. Horrified, Eberron tried to stop Khyber, but she knew that she could not defeat the Wyrm of Secrets. So Eberron wrapped herself around Khyber, imprisoning her. Khyber became the shadowy Underdark, while Siberys's remains became the sky and the moons and a golden ring, while Eberron became the Overworld, where life blossomed.   Today, Eberron is a planet surrounded by 12 moons, a golden ring, and with many stars above winking down at them. Dragons, ancient beings filled with near-god-like knowledge of magic isolate themselves on the island of Argonnessen from the mortal races. Elves come on big ships across the seas, raiding and pillaging their way until they finally found a home on the continent of Khorvaire, who respect nothing but might, and whose leaders are undead liches of light. Sarlona is home to the Inspired: mystical human telepaths who appear friendly but are secretive and who have hidden agendas. And Xen'drik is the jungle continent that was once home to the giants: beings of such large size and who possessed such advanced technology but who then mysteriously disappeared and fell into ruin.   Then finally, there is Khorvaire. The continent of civilisation, this place was once the realm of the Great Galifar, who conquered the five human nations and brought them together under his own name in 0 YK: Year of the Founding of the Kingdom. Whoever, in 898YK, his meganation split itself apart in a terrible civil war known as 'the Last War', where the five nations' monarchs each tried to claim the right to the throne. However, on 996YK, the Day of Mourning happened, blanketing the once-prosperous nation of Cyre in a haze of deadly magical smog, turning it into a wasteland. The remaining nations all agreed to a ceasefire and then finally to peace with the Treaty of Throneshold. However, not everyone is happy with the inconclusive end to the war, and 100 years of fighting can colour a people's prejudices against one another. There is talk that another war is coming, and all that holds it back from happening is the hard work of a few good people, but their efforts are being undermined by shadowy figures and mysterious forces. Just about everyone in Khorvaire won't acknowledge it, but they feel it in their bones: another war is coming, and this time, there will be either a decisive victor or everyone will die in the process.   However, in the middle of Vult, 997YK, a dark affliction has appeared: the Death Curse. Any who died in the past and was raised back to life are withering away. Many powerful spellcasters and nobles are afflicted by this condition, thanks to them being able to afford the funds for resurrection, including King Boranel ir'Wynarn of Breland, who is one of the biggest proponents for peace on Khorvaire. Many are scrambling to find the source of this Curse before it is too late, and there are whispers that the curse is a punishment from the gods and that something worse is on the horizon...
