Personal history

Kyla was born in the region of Mercy's Oak. Her birth was of great importance to the region, though highly controversial. The Augurs of Mercy's Oak prophesied that "Once the sky turns a different blue, the true leader shall bring an age of justice.", and on the day of Kyla's birth, the sky was a blue so deep that the Augurs believed that she was the "true leader", though there are conflicting ideas on how she was to bring an age of justice.   Kyla would leave Mercy's Oak with her family when she was a teenager, heading for Rivia where her parents hoped to find better work. Her father was a skilled fisherman and her mother a seamstress, and both hoped to find work at the docks and among the nobility of Rivia. They lived in a small, dirty hovel in the poorest part of the city, and it was by a pure stroke of luck that Kyla met a priestess of Tymora who would bring her to the monastery for an education. The priestess in question was a dryad who had also grown up in Mercy's Oak and knew the prophecy surrounding Kyla, and she felt it was an insult to the old Augurs for Kyla to remain destitute, and she took it upon herself to bring the family to Pordetina.   Kyla was an exemplary student and quickly rose through the ranks in the Temple of Tymora. Despite being older than most of the students in her rank, she managed to catch up with little trouble. She was always known to be devout to The Thirteen since coming to the monastery, but she seemed to really love Tymora and the doctrine of the temple, and when she was 49, she was promoted to one of the candidates for the highest position, the Fatemaker.   Kyla served as the Fatemaker for nearly a decade before she was chosen as the Archbishop of the monastery. It was somewhat a surprise as the Temple of Tymora is a smaller order and only a few Archbishops have been chosen from its ranks throughout history.

Education

Kyla was educated at the Temple of Tymora. She was easily one of the order's top students, and was an instructor for younger students for many yeas. The temple is not known for its martial strength, but she took it upon herself to learn martial skills from some paladins of Helm, and became quite skilled at archery in addition to her magic casting abilities.

Employment

For many yeas, Kyla was a priest of Tymora with standard duties expected of her, but she was also a teacher for the younger students, particularly the future clerics of Tymora. When she was 41, she rose to the rank of Luck Bringer, one of two advisors to the Fatemaker, and several years later, the Fatemaker retired, leading to the coin toss which gave her the title.   When Kyla was 52, only a few years after becoming Fatemaker, the Archbishop of the monastery passed away, and the new Archbishop was to be elected from among the leaders of each order. It is believed that a rumor of her prophecy went around the monastery conveniently close to the election of the new Archbishop, leading the two fey temple leaders - the Archmage of Mystra and the Moonmaiden of Selune - the Inquisitor of Tyr, the General of Tempus, the First of Eldath, the Sunlord of Amaunator, and the Great Guard of Helm, to vote for her. She has spent the last 15 years as head of the monastery, for better or worse.

Morality & Philosophy

Kyla has no clear moral path. She has been seen as greedy and ruthless by some due to her almost predatory protection of Port Pordetina and her indifference to the Second Witch Hunt that happened at the beginning of her reign as Archbishop. Yet she has shown immense compassion for the people of Mercy's Oak, especially those in Rivia and has gone to great lengths to properly train the young priests of the monastery. She has shown aggressive, ethically grey political tactics when dealing with the Duke of Messino, while simultaneously offering support and protections to the people in most need of it.
