Order of Tempus

Structure

The Order of Tempus is organized in the same way a standing army would be. The highest rank is that of General, and they are considered the high priest of Tempus. Lieutenant Generals act as the upper priests and the right hands of the General, followed by Colonels, Majors, Captains, Lieutenants, and finally, Privates.

Culture

The Order of Tempus has a rigid, militaristic culture. Privates take their vows to the god of war and begin their training, which lasts six to eight years. By the time they finish their training, they officially become priests of Tempus, taking their places as soldiers in the Monastery's army. Duties of the priests are mostly mundane, ranging from guard duty throughout the Monastery, to cooking and cleaning for other temples. Some regiments are more coveted than others, and younger priests often try to make themselves stand out more than others, giving the temple a reputation of being a highly competitive position.

History

The Order of Tempus is one of the oldest of the Monastery's temples, possibly the first. The temple is the Monastery's standing army, and one of the largest in the country, rivaling the army of Messino itself. It pulls students from all across the world, with large populations of future soldiers coming from Al-Mara and Hythe. Throughout history, the Temple of Tempus has been used in colonization efforts by Messino, and in other times, they have acted on their own against the very country that they make their home.

Tenets of Faith

  1. Members of the faith must work to minimize unnecessary bloodshed.
  2. Those who kill by poison, burn crops, kill noncombatants, are involved in torture, or other similar sins, will be cast out of the order and face the punishment of Tempus.
  3. Disparage no foe and respect all.
  4. Consider the consequences of the violence of war, and do not wage war recklessly
  5. The names of the dead honored by Tempus are sacred and holy and must be treated as such.

Worship

Worship in the Order of Tempus is relatively simple. Prayers are said at dawn and dusk, and training and the maintenance of weapons and armor are considered prayers as well. The temple also holds celebrations for the honored dead during the equinox during High Summer.
