Temple of Amaunator

Structure

The Temple of Amaunator is structured like most temples in the Monastery. The Sunlord or Sunlady is in charge of the temple and enforcing its tenants among its followers. High Jurors report directly to the Sunlord or Sunlady, and take the position of judge in the courts of the Monastery. Jurors make up the main bulk of the workers at the temple, performing the role of lawyers in court, and the students are referred to as Lower Jurors and often take the role of a jury in hearings.

Culture

The Temple of Amaunator is strict and rigid, and acts as a sort of court of law in the Monastery. Jurors are expected to follow even the most menial laws and rules of the Monastery, and any transgression, even the seemingly smallest, is met with harsh punishment. Like other temples, the students of Amaunator study magic, primarily fire and radiant magic. In addition to magic, students study the law of not just Messino, but other countries as well.

History

Like other temples, the Temple of Amaunator is an old order in the Monastery. It is considered to be one of the central orders, with many of its tenants universal in the Monastery. The temple's deity, Amaunator, is also one of the most widely worshiped of The Thirteen, and several Archbishops have come from the ranks of the Temple of Aumanator. The laws of the temple dictate the laws of the entire Monastery, and many laws have translated across Messino. In addition, many Jurors of the temple act as lawyers across the world, providing legal representation for those that need it in most countries.

Tenets of Faith

  1. Laws are the foundation on which any society is built on and disrespecting law inevitably causes the collapse of any society
  2. The law should be upheld equally for all, regardless of how small the transgression
  3. The accused is innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt
  4. All members of the faith are responsible for others. No one is above the law and must follow each to the letter.

Worship

The holiest day of the Temple of Amaunator is the Summer Solstice, and it is celebrated with a large festival where priests from all temples are welcome to enjoy the sunshine. Day-to-day life is rather mundane in the temple. Followers tend to shrines and preside over the numerous hearings that are brought to their attention. Students are often found in the library studying law until. All priests pause their activities when the sun is highest in the sky to say their prayers to Amaunator.
