Cyra's Lament

The poem delivered to Cyra's early followers, detailing the history between the sun and moon, and basic tenets for living.
The Lament vaguely describes the breakup between Cyra and her lover, Talune in its first section (the lament proper), followed by a number of fables that have been interpreted into moral obligations for her followers to abide by.

Background

It was originally given to the early cult of Cyra in the form of a carving in petrified wood, from which many rubbings were taken so that the work could be disseminated. It was originally written in Old Elvish, and has a number of translations into all of the languages of the world.

Cyra's Lament

O Cyra's light! Fills thy land
With heaven, fallen from her hand.
Glacial spikes all melt to soil,
Upon which mortals work and toil.

But now Cyra's heart is torn,
Betrayed by her love forlorn,
Talune's darkness once concealed,
Now shone, cannot be healed.
As light of day to blackness dies,
When the moon hides light from our eyes,
Cyra's heart with pain doth ache,
For her love, the moon doth take.
In ages past, the sun and moon,
Were bound together in a swoon,
Their light and dark entwined in passion,
Both blessed by perfect satisfaction.
But time can wither the strongest bond,
And love can wilt like a frond,
And so it was with Cyra's heart,
When she and wicked Talune did part.
But Cyra continues still to pray,
That one day Talune may change her ways,
And once again their love will shine,
And the heavens once more will be divine.
Until then, Cyra's light will glow,
And her warmth will continue to flow,
Giving life to all beneath her rays,
And guiding mortals through their days.
So let us praise Cyra, goddess of the sun,
For her light and warmth, never undone,
And may her love for mortals never fade,
As we bask in her radiant, golden shade.
