Kato

The Republic of Kato is state in the southwest of the Posuidete Archipelago. Most of Kato is found on the same island as Haporoya. The kingdom was founded by refugees from now destroyed city states that had existed on the island.

Culture

Despite Kato far out-performing the other states found on the Posuidete Archipelago many of its citizens; though mainly the royals, hold a high level of disdain and even hatred for the states of Haporoya and Kanbetsu. The former is often explained as stemming from old conflicts, while the latter is sometimes from a perceived 'inferiority.'

History

After the conclusion of the Eshou-Shouran Peninsula War in 683 DC, many of the city-states that previously existed on the island were destroyed or very nearly done so. While many survivors fled the region, a handful of citizens; including the republics founder - Cheng Lingxin. Lingxin made efforts to find those who stayed and would eventually write the decree of the Republic of Kato in the burnt out ruins of the city of Cheng in 691 DC.   From 691 DC up until 705 DC, Kato existed in the city of Cheng doing so under the administration of the Greater Haporoyan Empire of Atsutsyo, which was growing steadily in power at the time.   Sporadic protests against Atsutsyo between 711 DC and 718 DC were met with military crackdown and occasional widespread killings.   Between 768 DC and 807 DC, Kato gradually gained a greater level of autonomy from the weakening Haporoyan Empire of Atsutsyo. In 809 DC, Kato tore away from Atsutsyo and was formally an independent autonomous republic.
