King Baal Theophrastus Diomedes (a.k.a. Dio)
The current ruler of Magnum Opus, known as 'The Azure Mage' and 'The Peacecrafter', Baal Diomedes the 3rd rose to power after taking a key role in ending The Border Wars, although mostly out of necessity as no proper heir was prepared for the previous Magnum Opus royal family. His father, Duke Baal Diomedes the 2nd, was a renowned senator and enchanter, as was his wife, Duchess Camilla Diomedes.
Physical Description
Many find Diomedes to be rather spry for his age, tall and slightly lanky, although graying hairs and wrinkles on the face are beginning to show.
His Cobalt Blue eyes are said to be quite beautiful and effeminate.
His bright Blonde hair, and Cobalt Blue eyes are what gives him away the most.
When excited or nervous, he fidgets with his staff, or failing that the collar of his jacket or cloak.
Along with political brilliance and a kind, altruistic heart, he bears massive magical power and potential, putting him as one of the strongest Mages in Edda. Some say his magic can make him so fast it almost breaches the theoretical realm of Chronomancy.
King Diomedes always travels in simple clothing, which still appears to be made of fine fabrics.
Mental characteristics
Baal Diomedes was born under a bright star, when the guiding light was at it's highest peak above Magnum Opus, which would normally dictate great fortune to come. However, less than a year after his birth, the Border Wars began.
As Diomedes grew in the relative safety that nobility gave him, he was acutely aware of the peoples suffering. Spouses and children were being lost by the dozens, towns and villages were destroyed, all while he and his family lived high in their towers.
This was something that Diomedes could not stand for, so for 20 years he trained harder and harder with his Arcane arts, and the delicate craft of Diplomacy.
On the dawn of the 14th of Blooming Spring, Eight armies were gathered in what is now Theogany. It was a day of ceasefire, in remembrance from the lives that had been lost in the 19 prior years of endless war.
However, an instigator, no one knows who, began the fighting once more. Diomedes and a gathered group of fellow peace-seekers were prepared to speak to the people in three days time, but when he saw the chaos, Diomedes knew it was now, or never.
On a hill of rubble and debris, piled 20 feet high, stained by blood and the endlessly pouring rain, Diomedes revealed himself to the people, and decreed for them to stop fighting.
Without any weapon, without any arcane focus, without any armor, Baal Diomedes preached for peace, decrying the ones who started the war as needless warmongers and instigators, beseeched the people to not spill their fellow mans blood for what will not aid them, and promised them that peace could be found, and the war did not have to continue.
As the sun radiated on Diomedes, enough influential generals sought the same goal as him, and threw down their weapons in solidarity, making their subordinates stand down.
The war would officially be declared as over in but a few months time, but it would be many years until a sense of peace came across Edda once more.
Diomedes did not wish to be king, believing that Magnum Opus should be a true democracy, without a single Ruler, but he was advised that the newly formed country was incredibly unstable, and couldn't withstand a societal overhaul like that. So, in the meantime, he bides his time, and prepares the country for the day where no one shall be King.
King Diomedes presents himself as Male, and seems comfortable doing so.
King Diomedes has never publicly swayed one way or another in the spectrum of attraction, and many note that he has never taken a partner throughout his life.
Being of Noble Birth to a wealthy Textile family, despite the rage of war, Diomedes had access to a high quality education during his formative years, which he used to educate himself about politics, and the science of communication mostly, with his powerful arcane talents being his secondary focus.
Before his Calming of The Masses, Diomedes had done four years of work as a politicians aide, heightened by the fact that it was war-time politics. This not only got his words of peace in ears it would help influence, and get him allies on that front, but also exposed him to the realities of those who controlled war, which gave him the ammunition needed to win the hearts of the common people actually fighting the war.
Diomedes has had many achievements in his tenure as King. From instating a generous welfare system, to developing nigh-universal plumbing and powering systems, even his first achievement of The Calming of The Masses is monumental.
That is not to say Diomedes can never fail, his successes came after many failures, rewrites, and shot-down ideas. His greatest failure is the handling of The Slaver King, the one who commanded a ring of slavers to the north of Magnum Opus. In that situation, he reacted emotionally at the situation, and violently disposed of The Slaver King. However, as the forces on his side weren't totally in place, many other leaders escaped, causing a violent power vacuum.
He is now acting with caution that some say borders on hesitation, but rumors have it that they will strike again soon.
Diomedes has never spoken publicly about anything belying Mental Trauma, but no man who has lived through a war is without it, not to mention the atrocities he has dealt with afterwards.
As a King and powerful Wizard, King Diomedes relies on his vast intellect each and every day. However, the general public knows that King Diomedes is, in layman terms, a really big nerd, and will get distracted by the pull of new information, especially new magical information, at the drop of a hat.
King Diomedes prides freedom of the people more than anything, including his own freedom, and strives to protect and enhance it as much as he possibly can.
Diomedes takes great lengths to avoid insult, injury, or ignorance. The worst thing he has publicly done is attempt to decline food from an elderly chef, which any intelligent person knows is a fools errand.
Personality Characteristics
Diomedes has stated in many interviews that his main motivation is to make Edda a nation where everyone can be free to live their lives how they see fit. His support of purely Democratic systems, as well as the convenience of Magic Items, are results of this.
While intelligent in dozens of fronts, Diomedes is a very awkward person in casual social circumstances, bumbling over his words and getting embarrassed quite easily.

History
During her studies to take over as Grand Seer, King Diomedes offered his services as a teacher of Politics and other related social sciences. As one of the few people her mother and her aides trusted, Theresa learned under The Azure Mage, and the two have maintained a supportive relationship as Teacher and Student ever since, although Diomedes insists the two are on equal levels now, as they're both rulers.
Nicknames & Petnames
Diomedes sometimes shortens her name to Resa, while she is one of the few people to refer to him as Baal rather than some form of Diomedes.
