Wild Zone - Polaris Archipelago
One of the Five known Wild Magic Zones surrounding the continent of Edda, the Polaris Archipelago is one of the less threatening zones.
The strange malady of the Leylines on the islands puts gravity in flux. One minute you'll be proceeding at a normal pace, the next you'll be basically floating and bounding across the sands, and the minute after that you'll basically be forced to the ground by the intense pressure.
Not much is known about the islands themselves, except for the west-most shores, where the effects of the fluctuations are mostly harmless. Observations done from safe locations have shown that the rest of the islands seem to be entirely inhospitable, without even any vegetation or life, allegedly.
Several attempts have been made to explore further into the islands, but no one that has ventured far past the shores has ever returned alive.
Rumor has it, however, that the spirits of those who died exploring the Archipelago don't leave the island's grasp, held by a spiritual gravity the same as the physical force they were put under. When the noon-day sun hits the lakes at the center of the islands, some have even reported hearing the final screams and groans of the poor souls trapped there, and some have even reported seeing their reanimated bodies, stretched and squashed beyond recognition, beckoning others to the center as well to join them in their suffering.
These rumors are mostly unfounded, as there exists a Mercenary Guild in the most hospitable part of the islands known as First Tower that refutes such claims, although the reports they send back to the mainland always have redacted sections, only known to the The Council of Mercenary Observance.
Geography
From what can be gathered from safe observations, the islands seem to be purely salt flats, with each island having what appears to be a lake in the center, although gravity around that lake is always the harshest point of the islands, so no tests or records exist of it. Sparse overhead scryings have shown that some vegetation seems to exist around the center, but not enough to sustain life or be noteworthy.
History
The Polaris Archipelago was first recorded as a designated Wild Zone in 25 AC, shortly after the Wild Zone system had been developed. The true extent of its Wild properties wasn't fully recorded until 100 AC, after multiple failed journies to the islands.
It wasn't until 960 AC when the first permanent settlement was built on the Archipelago. At first, it was a simple researching and observation station, but after dangerous sea creatures started to turn up, and odd events were recorded that frightened the researchers, it was abandoned and now is the home to the Mercenary Guild First Tower.
