The Onyx is always. It's been there since before anyone has memory, artificial or otherwise. It sits in the center of the continent, a beacon for some, a repellent for others.
Those who study at the various universities in Teontia know it to be an object of interest. They post camps and shacks around the base, trying and hoping that proximity might reveal some secrets. Other pore over texts, researching the issue from as far back as history allows.
Some say the Onyx is some sort of super weapon, capable of destroying the entire continent. Some say it is a communication tower, some way to speak with the gods or the Zinn. It and its secrets remain impenetrable.

The Onyx is the stuff of legends, so much so I'm sure it was placed there to confuse us all. I will keep gathering tales though... maybe I'll be able to figure it out eventually.

The Onyx is a miles high black stone monolith that extends above the clouds. It is square and gently tapers up to the top. It stands on a base a mile wide.
