The political and cultural capital of the world, feast your eyes upon Edo. Cluttered streets, noisy crowds, thousands of people going about their daily business in this beautiful, beautiful city. The marketplaces might be one of the best parts- you can get anything you dream of if you have enough money, and if you don't you can find someone who does and work for pay. Millions - no dare I say BILLIONS of opportunities and experiences to be had here. I do not have a better memory in my life than the first day I came to the city on a wagon filled with only a few of my families most valued possessions and only a few thousand sen in my pocket and how the city scooped me up and said you're gonna love living here. Look at me now, a billionaire and I have the city to thank for it. So young one you're gonna make it being here, mark my words.

Defences

The protection of Edo as a city is one of the most important things on the priority queue given it's large population and the fact that it is the capital of the entire island. It has a guard force of over 70,000 all of whom receive at least two months of formal training before getting a position. The guard is responsible for dealing with crime within the city and with defending the city from exterior forces. There is a wall on the eastern side of the city which runs all the way up to the water on either side and into it for about a hundred feet. It is made of good quality materials (cement, wood, and metal) used in combination for both a strong and aesthetically appealing defensive line. The docs are also fairly well guarded as there is an increased guard presence there for legal reasons regarding the coming and going of ships and the people, goods, and livestock within them. Overall a very well fortified city.

History

Established in 398AC after two human factions fought over the land, the Old City portion of Edo was ininitally constructed between 400 and 700 AC, before construction slowed down in order of enough people to come to the city to warrant its expansion. The time for said expansion was between 1000 and 1200 AC, followed by another 400 period of slow construction and then the constant grown and evolving expansion until the city was about the size it is today at about 5700AC. During this time rulership of Edo was passed down from father to son until in 3391AC, when the king of Edo was assassinated and a brief power struggle ensued, resulting in a democratic vote among the nobility about who should be the next king, the cycle of this continued until the rise of the Edo Empire. With Edo as the capital it has become even larger, and the goings on in the city are at an all-time high.

Geography

Located on an outcropping of land on the eastern side of Misuto Lake, Edo is mostly on flat land save for the large hill upon which Edo Castle was built. For more information on the different districts of Edo see The Districts of Edo (city).
