The Battle of Seikigahara River

The biggest bloodbath in the history of the island, The Battle of Seikigahara River lasted only two and a half days and almost all sides suffered massive casualties. The centre of the battlefield, the river itself, ran red with the blood of those who fell in it for days.

The Conflict

Prelude

The Age of Turmoil, the time when almost everybody was at war, had been going on for over 1000 years, and all sides were ready to claim a final victory. This brought the battle to the Seikigahara river, the portion only a few kilometres above Misuto Lake. The conflict was barely for territory, merely to destroy the opposing forces armies, and this was the best location for all sides to meet. The battle officially started the morning of the 4th of Winter, 7592, when Aarakocran troops first attacked the Elvish Army, and from there all sides began to engage.

Battlefield

The battlefield was roughly 10kms on each side, making up a square with the middle being the most shallow part of the Seikigahara river, which is the only part of it that could be crossed by foot by the smaller races (halflings and dwarves). The different armies came from the approximate location of their territory, the goblinoids coming from the North-East, the Humans from the South-West and the Halflings from the South, etc. The terrain was mostly hilly, flattening out around 1km from the river.

Conditions

At the beginning of the battle it was relatively sunny, if a bit cold, and for the first few hours it remained that way, however as more sides met the conditions worsened, culminating in a snowstorm as most sides met knee deep in the river, resulting in the most casualty dense part of the battle.

Outcome

All sides (save for elves and onis) were heavily damaged, their forces for future battles very weakened.

Aftermath

Due to the weakening of the armies of almost all sides, most political leaders were tired of the conflict, hoping to end it in a declared stalemate and resulting peace. This allowed Yuuto Kobayashi to take advantage of this and have all sides declare a temporary peace, before assassinating the leasers and establishing the joint Edo Empire.

Historical Significance

Legacy

Remembered as the most bloody battle in history, it is both admonished for it's needlessness and recognized for it's role in ending the Age of Turmoil. It is part of the education of any citizen who can afford to be taught.
