Sielach

the Battle Maiden

(a.k.a. the Dawnfire, the Burning Maiden)

Sielach the Battle Maiden, also known as the Dawnfire or the Burning Maiden, reigns over the domains of Fire, Battle, Celebration, and Art. The Church of Sielach is devoted to valor in combat, artistic expression, and the joyful celebration of life's victories and moments.   The primary holy book of Sielach's faith is The Ignarion, a breviary containing prayers, hymns, and rituals, often used at the canonical hour of daybreak or First Light. The Flamekeeper's Chronicle recounts the adventures of the first flamekeeper who spread Sielach's light to the first churches, while The Collected Celebrations of Edras comprehensively documents the various holy days and festivals of the ancient people of Edras. The Liber Embrarium, or the Book of Dying Embers, explores the metaphysical aspects of fire in connection with death and rebirth.   The tenets of faith in Sielach's worship celebrate the ideals of fair combat, protecting allies, sharing hope, and the creation of art. Warriors of Sielach are expected to fight both fairly and ruthlessly, defend their comrades, spread hope to the less fortunate, and respect the arts in all forms. They are also dedicated to combating the worst of Edrazion's monsters for both glory and fame.   Important holidays include the Grand Jubilee, a two-day celebration of accomplishments and victories, the Blessing of First Light, a sacred ceremony rekindling Sielach's holy flames for the new year, and the Festival of Colours, a day of music, art, gift-giving, and colorful attire.   Temples dedicated to Sielach are renowned for their artistic grandeur and colorfulness, often incorporating mirrors to focus the light of holy pyres throughout their hallowed halls. These temples host vibrant celebrations and are rarely quiet, but instead filled with music and activities.   Sielach's favor is often manifested through the reshaping of objects into sword-like forms, golden light, or the distant sounds of jubilant crowds. Her displeasure is shown through the rusting of well-maintained weapons, spontaneous fires, or dissonant, eerie music.   Rituals in Sielach's faith include fire dances at dawn and sunset for eight days to combat the cold of winter, bathing weapons in morning light and reciting prayers for battle blessings, giving artwork as a gift to strangers to find divine inspiration, and placing brass and bronze bells around party venues and ringing them nine times on the morning of festivities to bless the event.   Sielach's worship revolves around embracing the light of victory, celebration, and artistic expression while defending against the forces of darkness.
