The Forgotten One

the Sacrificial Offering

(a.k.a. the Nameless Martyr, the Shatterer)

The Forgotten One is a deity lost to the annals of history, remembered as a deceased god who met their end during the cataclysmic event known as the Shattering in ancient Edras. This enigmatic deity's true identity and domains have faded into obscurity, shrouded in myths and theories that have evolved over time.   In modern Edrazion, the deity is symbolized by a pair of pale, wounded hands bound by red threads of fate. These symbols serve as a somber reminder of the deity's ultimate sacrifice and their connection to the profound changes that swept through the world during the Shattering.   Various myths and theories surround The Forgotten One, each attempting to piece together the fragments of this god's existence:
  • The Martyr of Pain and Darkness: Some depict The Forgotten One as a grim deity closely associated with Nimriel, overseeing domains like Pain, Suffering, Darkness, Shadow, Decay, Void, and Nothingness. In this interpretation, they embody the darker aspects of existence.
  • The Patron of Cities and Community: Others believe that The Forgotten One was a deity deeply connected to their mortal worshipers, overseeing domains like Cities, Wealth, Trade, Community, Family, and Culture. This interpretation paints them as a benevolent and communal figure.
  • The Oracle: Another theory portrays The Forgotten One as a reclusive deity serving as the oracle of the Brisingelion, the precursor to the Ministry Divine. Their domains included Vigil, Crossroads, Boundaries, Fate, Twilight, Magic, and Omens, suggesting a connection to divination and mystical knowledge.
  • The Heroic Deity of Myth and Quests: Some envision The Forgotten One as a mighty deity linked to mythical feats and great deeds. They were beloved by those undertaking epic tasks, overseeing domains like Quests, Sacrifice, Heroism, Myth, Storytelling, and Freedom. This interpretation emphasizes their heroic and adventurous aspects.
Despite the shifting interpretations, the true nature and domains of The Forgotten One remain veiled in mystery. They are remembered as a god whose sacrifice played a significant role in the ancient history of Edras, forever altering the course of the world.
