Phoenix Bone Quill
This Quill is crafted from one of the wing bones from a Phoenix. Early in the 3rd Epoch a small handful of Elven mages formed close bonds with the Phoenix that lived in the Blainhurst Peaks. The eldest Phoenix, Arri had worked with Wizards before and knew how they prized rare components. As a gift to the mages for their friendship, the eldest Phoenix gifted them each one of the hollow bones of its immense wings. Revealing that a phoenix can, by choice, leave some of its remains intact from the rejuvenation process. A decision that Arri will regret for eternity. The mages used the bones to create a special quill that opened many arcane possibilities in the crafting of scrolls, runes, and even simple written words. The quill is able to absorb different arcane-infused inks and use them to enhance spell scrolls with additional abilities. Whether that is additional power, elemental changes, subtle changes in look and feel, and extremely rare inks simplify the scroll making it easier to use. For more traditional scribes, the books and writing transcribed can become more vivid to the reader via illusionary recreations of whatever is being described or going into a trance being able to enter the world the tome was written in or place being described.
Unfortunately, the existence of the quills was discovered by others with less noble pursuits be that financial or nefarious. Some of the original quills were taken and some Phoenix were captured and forced to give their bones for their freedom or worse.
A Phoenix Bone Quill is a rare and cherished item and is closely guarded by those that use it. As well as the methods and components needed for the exotic arcane inks.
