The Creation of Eglorix

Three Brothers sent to wander

Three brothers Kasdiel , Achiel , and Rovio wandered the expanse of the cosmos before time. They traveled from world to world doing what brothers would do. Kasdiel was the oldest raised with a strong sense of right and wrong and a desire to do good however he would often raise the ire of his brothers with his righteous attitudes. He was dexterous and full of fortitude. Achiel was next born immediately after Kasdiel, he viewed himself as equal and almost the same age as Kasdiel envied him for the attention he garnered at being firstborn. Achiel was charismatic, roguish, willful, mischievous, strong, and eager to prove himself better than his older brother. Rovio was the unexpected third, small in stature but uniquely brilliant and pure of heart. He was often an integral part or tricks the brothers would play on each other and others. Kasdiel, Achiel, and Rovio were inseparable but fought constantly. After one particularly audacious series of tricks and fighting their parents sent them out. “It’s time you leave the court and find your way. You may return when you have found it”, Rein, the great father, told them. “You will know it when you find it.” Marda, the mother of all said in response to the brother’s questions.

Beauty

Ultimately in their travels, they finally came upon a beautiful young maiden, Eglorix. Each brother fell in love with her for different reasons and began to attempt to woo her affections. None of the brothers told each other about how they felt but it was obvious. Eglorix enjoyed the affections of them each and before long could not choose whom she loved the most. Her failing was indecision. Kasdiel was determined to prove himself the better of the three and bring this maiden back to the Court of Creation. He had written a poem extolling her virtues and his love for her.

A Harmless Trick

Achiel discovered this and deceived Rovio into swapping the poem for a trapped one they wrote together. “It will be like one of our old tricks, we will all laugh and there will be no harm in it.” Rovio hesitantly agreed and made the swap. He was hopeful that Eglorix would be impressed by his cleverness. When Kasdiel read his poem to Eglorix, Rovio’s magic made him think the words he spoke were his but were a silly limerick that made Eglorix blush deeply. Achiel appeared and read Kasdiel's original poem as his own. Eglorix was deeply touched by the poem and embraced Achiel. She indicated to Kasdiel that he could learn something about poetry from his brother. Kasdiel was very confused and wandered away. Rovio watching from afar smiled that his trick had worked, just like old times. He eventually approached the confused dejected Kasdiel. “How are you going to get him back?” Rovio said lightheartedly, expecting them to trick Achiel in return like they always did. It became obvious then to Kasdiel what had happened. He grabbed Rovio and returned to Eglorix and Achiel.

Jilted Rage

Kasdiel accused Achiel of the trick and used Rovio’s testimony to prove it. Eglorix was hurt, she loved the brothers but would not be toyed with. She began to leave them and that she didn’t know if she would return and in her anger said as much. Kasdiel looked condescendingly upon his brother Achiel, “look what you have done.” Achiel’s rage boiled over and he lashed out viciously with his power, “She was mine and you have ruined it!” Kasdiel did not expect the attack and his defense failed. Achiel’s Halberd sliced deep and sprayed Kasdiel’s blood to the skies and formed the stars. They whirled in combat Kasdiel’s rapier found Achiel more often but the Halberd wounded much deeper. As the heirs of creation spilled each other’s blood the world began to form. Rovio had seen them fight before but never like this. He jumped between them to stop them in his naivety and haste he neglected to defend himself, they were his brothers after all. Kasdiel’s rapier deflected as massive blow from Achiel’s halberd to the side, directly into Rovio, where neither of the brother’s expected him to be. Rovio cried out as the Halberd sank deep. Kasdiel and Achiel each blaming the other for mortally wounding their brother, their fury was renewed the fighting escalated no longer limited to weapons but using their powers of creation against the other. Eglorix heard the cry of Rovio and returned. She saw what her indecision had wrought and she rushed to Rovio’s side to shield him from the fray. She was struck many times by wayward blasts. Eventually, with Achiel’s superior strength and devious nature, he disarmed his brother and gained the upper hand. He stood above Kasdiel about to drive the halberd home an arrow flew true piercing Achiel through and flying off into the void. Eglorix's bowstring song echoed across the cosmos as Achiel fell. Kasdiel’s mind cleared and he realized what had been done. Crawling to Rovio’s side he looked upon him with tearful eyes and gave the rest of his strength to mend Rovio’s broken body. Eglorix knelt on the battlefield tears pouring freely. She knew the part she played and looked to the weakened Rovio propped up beside what was once Kasdiel. “My heart is mine to give and Rovio, pure of heart, I give it to you. But I will never leave this battlefield for it is my indecision that caused all this. I have decided and will never change.” Rovio responded, “and I will never leave your side, my love.” Eglorix gave her heart to Rovio and took the blood of creation spilled over her upon herself. She became what the brothers were sent to find. A world made from the joining of two celestials of creation but the celestials were gone. Rovio with his remaining strength, the heart of his beloved, and his brilliance architected creation. He breathed life into it and gave it her name. With his remaining power, he breathed a little power back into his brothers and the three brothers circle the one they love to this day.
