Xur grew up in a Cogrove orphanage, never knowing the fate of his parents other than the mention of their names would drive away any potential foster parent. Always in pursuit of knowledge, Xur was forced to hide books from the caregiver's else they take them with only a flogging to give in return. They kept learning and knowledge far from the orphans never teaching them practical skills such as cooking, cleaning and gathering wood.
Fleeing the orphanage at 15, Xur gave himself his name, wanting to become new and never using his birth name again. Leaving behind his only friend Daisy, he began the life of an urchin swindling the foolish and appeasing the rich to make his well being. The state of Cogrove disgusts Xur, feeling hippo-critical due to himself abusing the back alley dealings that he so very hated. One day he hopes to return the city to how it was, at least how his books once described it.
