The Reach

Hear us roar !

The Reach is the second-largest of the regions behind The North and is blessed with vast, blooming fields of crops and flowers, and numerous and well-populated villages and towns; it traditionally helps supply other less fertile parts of Eidos with grain, fruit, wine and livestock. It is ruled from the city of Kingstown by The Staldor Empire. The Reach is also the most heavily-populated part of Eidos and is one of the richest

Geography

The Reach is bordered by the immense Farnferll River and its many tributaries to the north, the sea to the east, the red mountains of Xnarull to the south and the forested hills of The Western Lands to the west. Most of the land in the central portion is composed of open plains, allowing for rolling fields of wheat or corn to be cultivated and to sustain more than the people living within the region itself. The most notable feature being the capital and the modifications brought to it by the Staldors to make it fit with the design of the Empire.South of Kingstown, at the base of the Daggercap Mountains lies the Brecilian Forest, which the superstitious locals profess to be haunted by spirits only held at bay by the Frostbear tribe inhabitting the region.

Fauna & Flora

The plant-life of the Reach is as diverse as it is plentyful. In the region, not two feet apart a skilled herbalist could find both the herbs necesarry to wake some-one from the deepest of comas, or the ones to make sure they never see the light of dawn again...
Aside from the abundance of medicinal herbs cultivated and used by its locals, the region also sports small pockets of forestry or, further north, marshland.
The wildlife, while less dangerous than that of other regions, is by no means lacking. The Staldors are avid hunters and the abundance of venison or boar found on their tables is proof of both their skill and the ammount of animals to be found around. The central plains are inhabited by deer, foxes, small rodents and wild-boars. Ankhegs are also found, however they are treated as vermin and dispatched with diligence so as to not become a real problem.
If one were to head north however, he would find less savoury meat. Rumors of shambling mounds of moss and flesh; Crocodiles and giant bat-like creatures to name only a few. The southern lands are also not exempt from more dangerous wildlife as both bears and wolves are present alongside the less documented creatures.

Natural Resources

Being the main producer of grain in Eidos, it comes with no surprise that the region is responsible for supplying most of the cities and villages in and around it with food and livestock. This food comes in the form of wheat, barley, corn, various legumes as well as prized cattle and hops to be turned into beer and ale that is then spiced with honey grown from the many apiaries around the land.
Another valuable resource hails from the both Eastwatch and Kingstown: The dark stone from the surrounding mountains and craggy coast-line is responsible for making up the building blocks used by Staldorian masons to create their signature Gateways and near impenetrable walls.

History

During a time lost to history the reaver people of The North used to lead regular raids to the villages down south, taking both food and riches back to their steppe homeland. These attacks came to a stop only when the region was brought to heel by a powerful wizard-king.
Defiant to the end, the reavers migrated south, fighting side by side with those they raided so that they would not suffer the same fate as those north of the Farnfell.
As the time passed, the tribes grew to be accepted in the Reach, and so they earned themselves a new place to call home. Each clan went their separate way: Frostbears to the south, Staldors to the east, Stormbrands to the west, Ironlords to the north and even more in-between. They all treasured the old ways, keeping memories of the land they hailed from alive for centuries. This, however, came in conflict with the ever-expanding Chantry, the reavers saw this as another attempt to have them subjugated. They banded together under the flag of the Staldor clan and king, fighting viciously on every side until they established themselves as an independent nation within the Reach.
